James C. Millard, 29, of Waverly, N.Y., is charged with drunk driving, recklessly endangering another person, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving, failing to stop at a stop sign, overtaking a vehicle on the left and speeding following the crash, which occurred at the intersection of Hayden Street and South Elmer Avenue at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Friday.
Millard was treated and released Friday at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre for injuries sustained after police said he lost control of his 1998 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle and slid approximately 177 feet along the roadway. The motorcycle slid approximately 230 feet, striking the front bumper of the shuttle bus. No injuries were reported from the driver or passengers of the bus, police said.
Sayre Borough police said patrolling officers had observed Millard speeding on Spring Street and passing vehicles unsafely, and began pursuit. Millard turned south on Lehigh Avenue, where he was slowed by other traffic before turning onto Cross Street, where officers were able to read the motorcycle's plate, police said.
Police said Millard appeared to stop for the patrol car's lights and sirens, before running the stop sign at Cross Street and North Elmer Avenue and speeding south.
Millard ran two more stop signs at West Lockhart Street and Packer Avenue, police said, continuing at a high speed toward the intersection of Hayden Street and South Elmer Avenue.
As he approached the intersection, police said, a Guthrie shuttle bus eastbound on Hayden Street pulled out in front of Millard, turning north on South Elmer Avenue. Police said Millard began evasive maneuvers to miss the bus, using the front brake and leaning the motorcycle left before losing control of the vehicle and laying it down on its side.
Millard was treated for his injuries and released to the custody of Sayre Borough police. In an affidavit of probable cause, police said Millard told officers he had several drinks in Athens Borough before driving on his motorcycle through Waverly, N.Y., and Sayre. Police said Millard told officers he did not know why he had run from police, but said he did see the patrol car. Police said Millard agreed to submit to a blood-alcohol test.
Millard was arraigned Friday by Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton, and remanded to the Bradford County Correctional Facility on $15,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for today before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw.

WARNING:

 :soapbox:

Why is it when anyone does something stupid with a motorcycle everyone starts yelling "ban them, thar dangerous things!"?  It seems people are quicker to condemn motorcycles than guns! (no offense to anyone who owns or likes firearms...especially those who own! )  Usually the only one hurt in a motorcycle accident is the rider, regardless of whose fault it is.  Meanwhile everyone can drive a _______ (insert here) as crazy as they want and no one says "hey, they should ban ________!"  Burns me up.
