Author Topic: Help! Urgent advice needed... (Read 3476 times)

After a most excellent road trip from Biloxi Ms to Hot Springs AR and back, I managed to dump the bike coming off my last interstate exit, about 6 miles from home...

My baby is going into the shop on Monday, it is a stock 1997 1200s. It will need new front left fairing, new speedometer, new case guards, and to add insult to injury, the person who stopped and helped me get the bike back up proceeded to drop it on the right side...

I've been reading this bulletin board for a while, especially as far as exhausts/other performance enhancements are concerned and was debating whether to go for one of the Holeshot exhausts or simply a Yoshimura slipon. I really want to take advantage of the fact that the bike will be in the shop (for a while as they are pretty backed up at the moment) and have them put on some kind of exhaust, possibly in conjunction with an air filter change (KNN?).
Is there any way any of the experts on the board could give me some advice on this one? I have not had enough time to talk to anyone here about all this, so I am game for any advice that you guys are prepared to offer...
So...if you had to make the fastest call on some improvements to a stock Bandit 1200s...what would you do?
PS Big shout out to my local Suzuki dealership for offering to let me have an SV1000 to run around in whilst the bike is in the shop!!!

With just a slip-on can and a K&N filter,you'll only have to go up 1(105) on the main jets. If you go to tfull exaust,Holeshot's stepped header will drop considerable weight,more power,looks good,but high mantenence keeping it looking good. Hindle/Brock full exahust wins the dyno tests, and even light than the Holeshot. Not sure,but it might be a bit more than the Holeshot too,or maybe that was just the ti. that was more .You'll have to investigate prices. You can log on to the Holeshot website ,And Katana John is a dealer for the Hindle Brock. I'm not sure what his web site is,but you can get it by logging on to the Bandits RUS site. I'm sure there are other options too,(Yoshi. maybe) but thats the route I would go. I have the Holeshot on mine,with the K&N pods,and a stage 2. If you go that route,plan on taking carb. jetting course 101. Either Dale Walker, or Katana John will help out with tunning advise. Hope this helps, Dan

My Hindle is stainless header and mid pipe with titanium canister, and was cheaper than the Holeshot exhaust

I had the complete Holeshot system on my 1st gen. 1200 bandit with a Factory Pro jet kit. I switched to the (Brock Davidson Streetsmart System). The Streetsmart system is lighter, cheaper, and my bike runs smoother.
I did not make any adjustments to the carbs.

Seems like all the suggestions so far have been IRT full header systems. Should you decide on just a slip on, I'd say the biggest difference between a Yosh and a Holeshot is looks. But if you go with a Yosh s/o, be sure to order one for a 2001+ B12. Those come with mid pipes, whereas if you order a Yosh for your bike's model yeat you will get a bolt-on can and still have the choking stock mid-pipe.

I have the fmf midpipe-silencer and am pretty happy with it.. it is the TI so its very light, and sounds sweet... ..and the power is very good... just rode to indy and back and its rode perfect, even in the rain(thanks to my good wife who bought me the new rainsuit!!)... and it helped I got a great deal on it!!...cant wait to ride it to NC next week!!
