Just read this on http://www.tailofthedragon.com

South bound lane with 5 (new) deliberate oil spots on the dragon, TN DOT spread sand. Law Enforcement has a good lead on a suspect. Three cycle LEO's on the Dragon today, they were pretty upset about the oil spills. Road should be in good shape Monday. Quiet day on the Dragon, no serious incidents other than the oil spills.

Somebody must have it in for us

I saw that the other day gary. It would take a sick fool to do that, let alone in an area overrun by bikes. I'm glad they have people like killboy and some concerned riders to help clean up.

Yeah I think people delibertaly put out sand and gravel in some of the corners around here. Everytime I go out and run one of the fun roads I always do a slow check ride first becasue these are roads that have no gravel truck traffic grassy shoulders and water on both sides. But the locals know these are heavily travled roads by the motorcyclist. I guess it is mostly just ignorace in the fact that they could kill someone they may just think that the guy will fall off the bike and walk away

hell most people around here don't even know that you wear those "hot lookin' clothes" for protection. They just think that it is to look cool.

I see Jacksonville, NC is still the "Armpit of America" - as it was referred to by me and my fellow Marines when I was stationed there 25+ years ago. (I was also at New River - with HMM-264 & HMM-162)

We call these people eco-terrorists. When the Barstow to Vegas off road race was still being run, these freaks would run piano wire about neck level in the drainage tunnels. Even in the northwest here some spikes were being buried in trails to make riders crash. That area now is condos and golf courses so they didn't do their job well.

Strangely enough, Taco, a lot of BICYCLIST ride the dragon, also.....

ECO terrorist my arse.....it's probably some local redneck who is bored, and frustrated that most of the outhouses are now gone in the county, or are bolted to concrete footings, and difficult to tipover......

I think this calls for vigilante justice. Catch the moron, tie him over a stump somewhere up off the Dragon, naked...'sunny side up', and spray him with female bear urine or something.

Graham county is pretty poor, and reiles quite a bit on the income the motorcycles brings in. I bet the locals would like to get ahold of the jerk, also.
(Plus......they use the Dragon, also...)

Yup L/COL now. SHould be picking up CPL next month

I work at MALS-26 but I'm TAD to MALS-29 till 26 gets back from the desert I work on the engine in the "shitters".

Yeah It made me restart my my account and I lost my post count but I am back.

We just got stuck working 12 on 12 off 6 days a week now. Freakin' sucks barley enough time to ride but I ride still.

I'm a little zombiefied after work.

What's MALS stand for?
Back when I was in, engine mechs were either assigned to a aircraft squadron or to the Air Group's H&MS (Headquarters & Maintenance Squadron).

So, you're a T-64 mech then, MOS 6123?
I can't believe I still remember that - not bad for a Phrog Phlyer (6112/6172), eh?

Yup 6123. MALS= Marine/Aviation/Logistics/Squadron. We are bacilly an "I" level maint. facility for everything from engines to airframes stuff to flight equipemnt (I.E. Life support) and AVionics. If there is something that is beyond our capability we send it to NADEP to the Civilians working at Cherry Point. We are actually considered a squadron just like anyother though we don't fly anything. However when ever a sqaudron goes anywhere (such as CAX WTI or even the desert) we have to send a det out with them for support and we are considered part of what ever sqaud. we get attached to.

Sounds like the same thing H&MS was, just a new name. Back in my day, we usually had a few "I" level folks permanently attached and we got more when we deployed to anything that lasted very long or was very far from home. One of my close friends that was in my flight line shop in New River back in 1977-1979 was a 6122 T-58 mech. Now he works for GE as a Field Service Rep here in the Seattle area and is on call to Boeing (they have a seperate batch on call to the Sea-Tac airport & the airlines), so I see him whenever we have an issue with a GE engine on a 777.

What you call NADEP was NARF (Naval Air Rework Facility) back then... and our helos were reworked by Cherry Point on the East Coast and North Island (San Diego) on the West. It was predominantly civilian back then, too. The Corps did provide aircrews, but that was pretty much it.

It is all becoming Civilianized now. Our MOS is soppoused to be taken over by civilians within the next few years or so.

Its always a good idea to do the Dragon at a "slow" pace the first time through. When you go there you will want to do that stretch multiple times anyway!
