Title: Vespa GTS 250
Post by: Tx RN on October 28, 2007, 03:51:11 AM
Hey Gang, have you checked out the new Vespa GTS 250? It seems, from reading Vespa forums, they have a wiring issue that has resulted in electrical fires and numerous failures of all power to the motor. Man am I glad I read the forums before I bought one. $6,200 is a lot of $$ to spend for a POS that may burn in your garage. I have learned from this forum to sift through all the info for the real meat of an issue. Most Jap bike problems result from mods and abuse. I appears the Japaneese bikes are still superior in the areas of low maintence, lower purchase price, and long term reliability. I was leaning hard torwards a BMW 1200GS. For $15,000 base and $3,000+ in accessories, plus a valve adjustment every 3,000 miles, I decided to pass. I'm glad I did. The B1250 is the bomb! I wanted to avoid the chain drive but could not find a close second from any other manufacturer. So lube in hand I ride.

$6200 for a 250 scooter?
You know you the 400 Burgman has a lower MSRP than that ($5949).

A scooter is a heck of allot of fun at least the small ones. I recently sold a Yamaha Vino 125 about the same size as a classic Vespa but the problem is the Vino was so under powered it was almost dangerous in traffic with top speed varying between 25-35 MPH depending on if there was any road grade. Vespa has the corner market on the powerful toy classic scooter with an engine that hauls 70-80 mph. Until one of the 4 Japaneses companies come out with a powerful toy classic, the oversize scooters are just a motorcycle with floorboards and no fun like the small zippy classic size.

There is a post on ADVrider about a guy from Maryland who rode his 49cc scooter from Baltimore to LA.  Took him 3 months and 9000 miles at 15-20mph but he made it.

First thing that comes to mind is the movie rights for a parity on the movie Dumb and Dumber.

Baltimore to LA in 9000 miles? He sure didn't take a very direct route!
That's enough mileage to go from Baltimore to LA to Baltimore and almost make it back to LA again!
