Well, Stormi, imagine my surprise at getting notified that there was a shift to "members.stormi.ca/BABBS" (yes, I got the notification, thank you!) but I didn't see much going on there at all. Went overseas a bit later, and after getting back, couldn't find Bandits anywhere (was there a second move?) .  :boohoo:

From time to time after that, I looked around the net for BanditAlley but didn't get the old group or your new site.  :duh:  :annoy:  So don't feel like the Lone Ranger about the confusion thing. So, that's why it seemed you'd disappeared.

Anyway, today I ran across BanditAlley in my "favorites" file and morosely pecked at the entry. Wahoo! My dejection vanished because you were BA-AAAACK! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

What made things worse while you were "gone" is that my, er, "riding club" had become another victim of the "lets do another escorted mass-ride for charity" syndrome. Geez, going on these things was draining my bank account faster than a gas-guzzling SUV, and I had put on 10 lbs. going on weekly "restaurant runs". At least my wallet was getting lighter. And needless to say, "runs" like this are far from fun when the long line of bikes starts to "rubber-band" and some fool runs up yer tailpipe. Once I saw three bikes go down behind me as they snapped out of a doze and overdid the brakes.

So, it's good to see that all is well once again in the land of round door-knobs. This group is much better than psychotherapy.  :taz:

New site looks good - nice work.

Regards,

Herb

Hi Herb!!

I think I'm confused.  Not hard to do these days,...

But what makes you think we disappeared?  We've been here the whole time, albeit under different website addresses.  When Pete couldn't spend anytime on the site, I took the backup to members.stormi.ca/BABBS, I did send out a notification when we did that, I guess you didn't get one?  I may have hit a lot of spam folders.

Then we moved to our permanent domain, banditalley.net, what, a month ago now?, once I had time to do that....

But the user database,... were you not able to log in?  If you had to create a new user, you sure have been busy in the last day, what with 100+ posts.

Anyway, post your Intro again, if you want.   :stickpoke:

Hi, Pete;

Not a lot to tell here. I own a '99 Bandit 1200S, bought used in 2001, that replaced a Vetter-faired bagger '80 Yamaha XS850SG.  So, I'm not into sportbikes, but really truly appreciate a bike that has great acceleration, stops and turns even better and is good for touring.  As I get on in years, I've found myself wanting more power and speed instead of it being the other way 'round, so the Bandit 1200 seemed like the best answer. I hope to keep riding until I croak or my IRA runs out of money (your mileage may vary!)

I love this group, and the website contains a lot of useful data. In fact (not quite sure of accuracy), I believe I've been with this group for 4 years - maybe longer? - through a few board crashes. Something seems to get lost each time, but there's always that welcome comeback (whew!).  :gloom: :storm:

I starting with a 175cc Parilla in 1958.  A used '62 Yamaha YDS-2 was next. Great fun - nearly killed me. :bomb:  After marriage and kids, I bought my brother's '73 Honda 360, reliable as an axe. Years later, I found an '80 Yamaha XS850SG through a guy at work and bought it, selling the Honda to another worker at the same place. Later, I picked up an '80 850G with a bad second gear and then was practically given a '72 350 Yamaha R5C. This I rebuilt from the frame up, turning it into a real hand-grenade. Just before retirement, I sold everything but the XS850SG bagger. This bike lasted me into retirement in Lutz, Florida. It was during a shopping run to the Local Yamaha dealer for carb parts that I saw the '99 Bandit sitting there. I HAD to have this bike, and I still have it today. No regrets, just great riding. :bandit:

Please use this thread to 'introduce' yourself to the board!

A full biography isn't needed,  but a few details, and a location, helps other members get an idea of who, and where you are.

We have members scattered out all over the world, and you may be the only one in your little corner, or you may have more company than you think.

If you're looking for somebody to ride with, go ahead and say so.

We don't always give a formal welcome to new members....don't feel left out if we miss you...or wait for some acknowledgement to jump in and post a message.

(Note: this thread was re-started after a board crash.  The first batch of response are pretty much 'where've you been' stuff....)

  My stuff?

I'm Pete, the founder of this board, and responsible for all things I can't blame on the moderators.
  I have a '99 Bandit 1200, I bought new in '99.
I'm in the Augusta, GA area, but don't ride a lot, locally.
I mostly save my bikes for trips to the mountains........life's too short for boring roads!

Really?  Strange, it was at members.stormi.ca/BABBS that we had the currently recorded "best day".  102 users on my poor server at once.  I didn't think it had ever been slow, but I was pretty busy with the behind the scenes stuff.  There wasn't a second move at any point, until the move to banditalley.net.  Perhaps you caught us on a bad day?

Well, I'm glad that you kept looking.  As you can see, there have been a number of changes, all with the intention of growing bigger and better.  We've registered Banditalley.net for 10yrs, so you should find us at this address for the next 10 anyway.

We're doing backups on average once a week, so there shouldn't ever be any big losses again.  Worst should be a couple of days down to rebuild in the event of catastrophic failure.   One of the benefits of having a computer geek in charge of the site.

Oh yuck!  Yes, hook up with some of the people in your area and go for a real ride!! We go on the annual Santa's anonymous toy runs, but that's about it for group rides.  I prefer to ride at my own speed, on my favorite roads.

It's been a lot of work, but it's rewarding work, because I know that people out there want to be here.  That's what makes it worthwhile.  (Probably more so if r_outsider would stop finding bugs in the new software.... )

Yes, for sure. I prefer to have the freedom to change routes or go places at the spur of the moment when it comes to local rides.

Yes,.. I read that,.. HaveBlue also contacted me saying that he couldn't find us.

I'd like to see if we can find out when we disappeared.  If I can figure that out, hopefully I can figure out why we disappeared, and how to fix it.

I can send out another email telling the population where we are....

And Welcome (back?) Ciso!!

I think part of this was promoted when the question was brought up at MAXZUK and suddenly a few of the lost follow the yellow brick road back.

Ok,. I did a little looking, and with a little help from a few of our lost and newly found members, figured out where I dropped a few of you.

When I put the page up that said that the forums were over this way, I didn't take into account that some people would have bookmarked pages other than the front page of the forums.  (For instance, some of our 400 crew that never step out of their forum )  Also, with phpBB, we used to have a session ID, and that number sometimes showed up in the link that they bookmarked.  ( which also could have accounted for some of the expired session errors some people used to get.)

In most of those cases, people would not have received the friendly "Follow me" message I'd put up, to reduce the load on the server, they would have received the canned "404 error" or page not found.  I've put the old forum back online, so that it can catch all of the bookmarked links.  I will leave it online til Dec 31st (ish) Then take it down.  I would think that if people haven't been here in that long, AND didn't get the email, they weren't that interested in sticking with us in the first place.  Especially in light of the fact that in about Sept.  I put a notice at the top of the board to change your bookmarked links to forums.banditalley.net, and we've been talking about the new domain since July.
