dropped the bike. Came to a stop- and rolled further that my foot intended...thar she went. Knew it was going over- nothing I could do without possibly injuring my bad back....just eased her on down. What a helpless feeling. I layed it down and stepped over thinking- my god, this is gonna be ugly. So I got myself together- and got my first experience in picking up a bike....never dropped one before. It was easier than I expected for it to be a 500lb machine. Afraid to look down- I threw a leg over and put the kick stand down. Dismounted. Walked around the bike- ready to start crying- and was pleasantly suprised. Right turn signal is broke and pushed through the fairing- the peg(nut thing on the outer edge), mirror, front brake lever, and muffler have minor rash. I was afraid the whole side and fairing were gonna be screwed up...man I was lucky!

My condolences....crashed bikes, no matter how minor, suck. Gald it wasn't worse and you appear to be no worse for wear. Now get those parts ordered and get in some quality bonding (wrenching) time with your bike.

Damn, Leedogg.... it really sucks to ding up a brand new, shiny motorcycle! I feel for ya...
I've been lucky so far... the worst for me is going in and out of our country farm on the dirt driveway and gravel road. I suppose a slip-up is inevitable someday though.
Could have been a lot worse. At least she's not a "virgin" anymore and you can relax a little. I'm sure she'll be good as new as soon as you get the new parts. Besides, weren't you thinking of replacing the muffler anyway?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. If it'll make ya feel any better, I dropped mine before I ever rode it! I was rolling it onto the sidewalk to take some pictures, and it got mired in the soft lawn and just pulled me over with it. That was how I found out how easy it is to break the turn signals & brake/clutch levers and how it easy (if not cheap) it is to replace them.
I've done a lot more dumb stuff since then, but we don't have time for the list....
-
Did the turn signal actually break, or just get pushed through the fairing the way it's designed to do if it goes on its side?
Because getting it back in place takes about 5 minutes with a screwdriver.

glad to know the bike is not too bad.
I dropped my bike too on the street once at around 20 km/h or 30 but it was my KLR so it only had a bit of a rash on the handguard and the rear wheel axle.
But if it was the Bandit...like you say I would be crying!

leedogg... I feel your pain, brother... and fully understand the bad back stuff (since I'm suffering now - but enough about me :boohoo: ) Did a 0 mph drop last year and all I could do was set it down gently. Just recently had it almost go over again and caught it but I figure that's why I'm stove-up now.
Sorry to hear about your NEW bike... very glad it's just cosmetic and you're okay.

Been there. On my last bike I was doing a U-turn in the street. I was still in dirt bike mode and when I saw the curb I thought "I'll just hop the front wheel along it". hahaha :duh:
Turns out the front wheel hit (I was going very slow), stopped me, and she tipped over.
My friends were laughing pretty hard.

The damages-
Brake Lever- right on the tip of the ball...scuffed up. I think a little emory cloth and polish and she'l be good as new.

The Blinker- going to need a housing- I pulled it back into the fairing before I took these. Considering some flush moun signals...or the blinker mod that Zen had posted about.

The Peg- scarred the scrub nut...and if you look close you can see the scuffs slong the bottom of the peg.

he muffler- not even sure if that os a scuff or dirt...bike was hot...gonna wipe it down today.

forgot about the mirror- I will get a shot of it too.

Mine fell over in the driveway in the second week I owned it with only 120 miles on the clock. :annoy:
Similar damage to yours though the brake lever snapped. In addition, I also scuffed my lower fairing (lots of coloured wax on it now and it hardly shows) and the right-side crank cover has a minor abrasion on the edge. I got dealer to replace indicator, bar end and brake lever and I found that black shoe polish hides the abrasion on the mirror quite well. I've not done anything about the muffler scratch because you don't see it unless you go looking for it.
I hadn't dropped a bike in years and it was only manoeuvring it to be close to my ground anchor when it just slipped away from me. I was annoyed at the time but now I've got it fixed up, it hardly shows and I feel a lot happier.

Sorry to hear, Lee, but at least it wasn't at speed and you're ok
I dropped my Fizzer twice my first year riding. Both times I was turning around on an incline. Grabbed too much brake and before you know it down she went. Luckily I was able to do the same as you and "carry" it down to the ground without a hard fall. Didn't suffer any damage at all. Well, none that I could tell. The bike was a complete POS when I first got it
So did the fairing suffer any damage at the signal, or did it simply go through?
-
Leedogg, honestly, it doesn't look that bad in the pics. I bet you could super-glue that turn signal... at least until you get a new one or do the mod.
The rest of it will polish out.... the peg feeler is designed to be scraped anyway. You're supposed to be going around corners though...

I was thinking the same...lol. Just tell your buddies you were dragging a peg doing a 60 mph right hand sweeper
-
Oh yeah- that is already my story.LOL The fairing suffered no damage that I can find...just punched right through.
I am very happy that the damage was so minimal.I took some black duct tape and fixed up the turn signal.
