Title: What do you do???????
Post by: ArcticEd on April 27, 2006, 09:42:18 PM
I'm sure this has been done a couple dozen times here, but since I haven't been here too long and am just getting to know who's who, I thought I'd ask....What do you do??? Hobbies?? Family???
I'll start.
I was raised in a family-owned motorcycle and snowmobile shop.(Closed in 81)
In 82 I started my own sign and graphics business, and have been doing  that ever since. We also do custom paint, and sled mods, accessories and parts...Here's a pic of the "shop sled"

After 19 years of motocross and a couple years of Observed Trials, I got the bug for a street bike again, and long story short, wound up with my 03 Bandit N.

Been divorced since 02 (after almost 25 years) and I have 2 kids (Son, 24 and a daughter 18, both of whom live with me).

Anybody else care to join in?

Yeah, we do this periodically, but I never remember what everybody says!

I'm the PBX Supervisor at a 190 bed medical center in Dallas.  Operators, pagers, cellphones, radios, police dispatch, codes, training, and so forth.  That's my thing.

I'm bored sh!tless with it after 10 years.  NEED NEW JOB!

Married 23 years, two girls 11 & 16, one mutt.  No real hobbies, but I like to watch satellite TV in my downtime or piddle with the laptop.

In fact, I'm piddling now!

Nice job on the sled, it looks good...

I was an IT Engineer up until 2004, when I was put on full disability for liver disease.  I still dabble, but its all from home now...

I know you probably have some good ideas for your Bandit paint, post some pics if you ever do a project like that.

I rode MX 20 years ago, those guys do tend to like crazy graphics..  bet that was good piece of business...

Mike :)

Teacher for twenty four years.  just recently discovered alternative ed. so I now teach those kids who have failed in the regular system and i love it.  Should also say I have been teaching first nations kids for 15 years and am doing that now.

Married for 25 years and two kids.  first one is flying the coop this sept. to go off to uni - that will be interesting - hardly ever see him anyway so maybe not much of a change...always wanted six kids running around so that is a bit of a bummer - hey - who says we get what we want, eh?

have five acres and a house i built just on the edge of a small town so have a pretty good setup.

I like to write songs and sing!  Anybody else out there ?  we could get together and form a new group - The Bandits!

Jim

I have a wonderful wife,(no she's not looking over my shoulder) a 15yr old son, and a 14yr old daughter. Two teen-agers, yikes. Throw in two dogs, several fish in a 75 gallon aquarium, and a pair of zebra finches. I do alot of fishing when I'm not working or riding.

Bought my 98 B12 about a year ago, i have 4 days off at a time, so i have alot of time to ride, or work on my car or jeep. I am also into 4 wheeling and dabble in playing guitar (although I own 3 of them and can't really play anything) :duh:

After reading this, i realize i have alot of freetime.

Hello there...

I'm Paul.  I'm 46 and I live in the Chicago suburbs.

I married in 1984, and divorced in 1997.

Re-married to an EXCEPTIONAL woman in 2004.  One phenomenal daughter from my previous marriage who is a freshman in college.  One step-daughter who is 8 years old and also very special.

I had a lucrative career with my father's company for 15 years.

Got tired of being a legal headhunter at about the same time the market for being a legal headhunter crashed.  (1990)
I'm now a computer geek for a high school and making about half of what I did in the '80's.  No problems here - since my life is on track, I've found out what is important (God)... have a great family... and I have NO complaints.

Hey PaulVS, is that your wife in your avatar?  If so I would have to agree she is exceptional!    :beers:

I am 34, live in Bloomingdale, IL. (Chicago Suburb).

I am an Associate Technical Support Engineer, that is my title, but all I do is teach our customers how to use our equipment in a classroom setting.  Still kind of new to it but enjoying it and making a very nice salary for doing the easiest job I have ever had!

I have a wife, (No that is not her in my Avatar!) a son 5, a daughter 2, an American Bulldog 9 months, 2 turtles, and several fish, that I lose count of because the turtles seem to treat them as appetizers.

Going to college 3 nights a week to finish a degree in Electro-mechanical Technology, will be finished in one more semester, then off to Business school.

I enjoy riding my B12, fishing, boating, mountain biking, weightlifting, and spending as much time as I can with my kids.

My daughter just signed her letter of intent for College Miseracordia (Soccer scholarship)......she'll be moving on campus in mid August (Daily practice starts earlier than the actual classes). When the whole divorce thing started, I was bummed because I didn't want to be one of those every-other-weekend dads, so I was quite happy when I was awarded full time custody. She was just away on vacation for 2 weeks with "The Egg Donor", and I was a  more than happy when she finally got home, so I'm not much looking forward to having her move away to college come fall...... This is gonna suck, I can see it now.

Well I am a soon to be college Grad (eight days to graduation) from LeTourneau University (small school in East Texas) and am seeking employment in the electrical engineering field.  I would like to do design work.  I do not have a wife or kids (which is ok since I am only 22).  And I have been riding for almost a year now.

I am 25 and work at a custom rotational plastic company...make the plastic tank on toro lawnmowers all the way up to gas tanks for tractors and other very large things. I just moved back to Iowa from Ohio after being there for a year and  a half and meeting my girlfriend there. She transfered her job here with a little persuasion from me    Now all I need to do to make my life whole again is get a job on a fire department around here full time because I did that in Ohio and loved it, but had to quit  to move back to Iowa. :duh:  Ob well, I didn't like living there anyway

Hi, I'm Rob!!!

I'm a product manager for a small health plan serving organized labor (yes, the board's resident right-wing nutjob works with the unions - oh the irony!!!).  I'm in the midst of a job hunt currently - hopefully staying in the managed care industry.

Family - no offense to all you other guys but I've got the best wife around!  She's just amazing.  I've got a 9 year old little boy and 6 year old girl.  So much fun!

Hobbies - way too many for a guy with a job and a family!  I love to freshwater fish.  I belong to a gun club and shoot trap, skeet and sporting clays whenever I can.  I coach little league and flag football.  I like to ride motorcycles once in a while!

Good thread.

EDIT - forgot to add...  I'm 37, married almost 15 years.  Other hobby that is putting a serious crimp in my riding right now is running...  well, jogging.  I've been training the last few months for a 10 mile race that is next weekend.  This running stuff sucks.

I'm another Paul. 49 years young, married to my first and only wife for 25 years (anniversary was last week). We've got 4 kids. 3 daughters, aged 23, 28 & 30 and a son who's 27. (My wife had three kids when we got married that I adopted.) I've got 4 grand-daughters ages 1, 2, 10 & 11.

I spent 9 years in the military, 8 years in the Marines and a year in the Army Reserve where I was a helicopter mechanic/gunner/crewchief/maintenance inspector. After I got out, I got a job with Boeing, where I've been inspecting the construction of commercial airliners for the last 19 years.

I started riding dirt bikes at 14 and been riding ever since. There have been a couple of spells where the home was bikeless, but never more than a couple years at a time. I'm also into Jeeps/4 wheel drives, an activity my dad got me hooked into. In fact, I still have his last Jeep (Dad passed away ~10 years ago), which is the rig I learned to drive in.

Didn't we do this once before?

Anyway, I'm Todd.

I'm an associate software engineer at a company in Daytona Beach called Raydon (http://www.raydon.com/), we make both military and civilian simulators. I've been with the company almost exactly a year now, and I'm working with some pretty cool stuff. I can tell you, those big M1A1s and M2 Bradleys? Freaking tiny inside! Most tankers must not be 6' 2" and 220lbs. I have nothing but the utmost respect now for anyone who can sit inside one of those steel boxes for 12 hours in the baking sun with no AC or any real ventilation while people shoot at you.

Hobbies include writing computer games, motorcycling, fishing, white-water rafting, hiking, and mountain biking. Not a lot of places to do white water rafting or mountain biking in Florida, though.

Family... well, I'm single with no kids. So I'm not broke all the time, at least.

Unfortunatly I've recently found myself Bandit-less, but a new '03 919 is filling the old 400's shoes quite nicely.

Now everyone get off the internet and go ride!

60 years old and the sales manager for a small computer services company in northern Virginia.

Happily divorced for 13 years so I get to spend all my extra coinage on my motorcycle addiction. Have 3 children, twin boys that are 38 yo and a daughter that is 36. 5 grandchildren, all boys, ages 2 -14.

And sad to say, I am also a former Bandit owner. Traded the Bandito in on a new YamaMama FJR 1300 last Sat. 145hp, shaft drive, ABS, hard bags. Me likey.

I work for a one of the most beloved (ha ha) federal agencies, have done so since I was in college, and now have over 25 years with the same employer (but have lived many places).

My degree is in communications (print media) but it's only been the past few years that I've gotten to really use it, working on a website for an agency-wide employee support contact center.

I am 44...never married, no kids, but like a lot of things, I'll get around to it on my own schedule.

My interests (beyond the topic of this board) are various forms of entertainment and hockey (almost any level, from high school to college to olypmic to minor league to NHL).

Uh...what else?  Is this like speed-dating?

47, married 25 yrs, bought the silver 02 B12 for our 25th last summer. We have 3 kids, two girls 22&20 and little mark who is 11. Mark is a special needs child with the skills of a 1 yr old.

I started out as a machinist, at some point switched to graphic design (print) and recently made another switch to social/faith work. I now work for a church based inner city mission helping homeless people experience meaningful work. We make furniture accessories.

Jim, I too work with people who didn't make it in mainstream education. Most of my students are over 40 and have experienced significant marginalization due to their learning disabilities.

Jim, your idea about putting together a music group called the Bandits has me worried. I recently heard about a bunch of guys who did something like that and they wound up dead and stuffed in their trunks.

I'm 46, and trying to be 26 again (oh my achin' back). I've been a Mechanical Engineer for 8.5 years working mostly for a company that designs and builds all sorts of lifting equipment. Before that and school to get there, I was a guitarist in the Air Force Band at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH. That was fun, but after trying to look cool to a bunch of high school kids wearing a blue uniform for eight years, I decided to move on. I started riding around 1991. bikes include 1980 Suzuki GS550L, 1981 Suzuki GS1000G, 1987 Kawasaki Concours, 1986 Honda V65 Magna, 1985 Honda Shadow VT1100, 2001 Suzuki Bandit 1200 and my soon to be 1995 Kawasaki GPZ1100. I have a fantastic wife of almost 17 years (June) and a very cool little 5 year old boy who can't wait to get a ride on a motorcycle (much to mom's dismay).  Hobbies include motorcycle riding and playing guitar. I'm a christian and a deacon at First Baptist Church of Fairborn Ohio. Ok, I'm done.
