I see three different Bandit 1200 and two bandit 600 for sale in the classifieds...and yet they must not be ridden much because i rarely ever see one on the road (i've seen a total of 1). Guess thats why they are being sold 'mint' with low mileage. How can somebody have a bike just begging to be ridden, a bike with enough torque to put a smile on your face and enough comfort to keep it there...I hope they aren't selling because they are unhappy a visit here would give people fixes for all the common gripes.
....sorry just had to vent...

Strangely, a few people I've talked to with sportbikes told me how they want to keep the mileage down on them to keep their resale value. They'll be hanging aroung the local coffee shop here with their Ducatis and whatnot and acting more like Harley guys, talking about some mod or some crap they've done to the bike.
People like this shouldn't be allowed to buy bikes... :wtf:

True, but then guys like me wouldn't be able to buy low mileage used Bandits for short money. :motorsmile:

Vidrazor, we call those guys credit card bikers. My running joke is that they run a belt sander on their tires to take care of the chicken strips, or at least they should. :lol:
Guess it depends on how and why but 'low mileage' will not sell a bike for me every time just like 'never driven in the rain' (does it melt), 'lady driven' (clearly those people have never ridden with me) don't get me wrong I take care of my bikes, but they are never babied. Due to extensive harassment from my friends I may just list my next bike as 'lady driven'. :grin:

A nice bike,but their dreaming if they think they'll get that much out of it.
I like using them and riding them to their limit when the time and place allows me to. I know guys that spend more time polishing their bikes than riding them, but me, "excuse me sir, but I just want to ride" :motorsmile:

Asking price and selling price can occasionally be very far apart.

thats just the thing, he may not be dreaming with that price, all the bandits listed are listed at over 5000, except for a 2005 650 which is being listed as 'special' LOW cash price at $4500. Used motorcycle prices here are VERY inflated. It is not unusual to see 1-2 year old bikes listed here for more than MSRP in the US.
I can't even count the number of 25 year old bikes listed right now at over $2500, these aren't show pieces just ordinary old bikes. Not to mention the old street and trails going for over 1k. Count your lucky stars you guys get better deals.

Canadian used bike prices are just a reflection of Canadian new bike prices. Back in 2002 with our 63 cent dollar, our prices actually worked out to be a fair bit less than the American price (and now the guy who bought an '02 for $13k wants to get his money out of it in '02 dollars). But when the Loonie went up, bike prices didn't exactly fall, sometimes they actually went up a bit, so now they're way more here than in the US. The only way CDN prices are going to come back in line with what US prices are is for Canadians to realize that most of us are less than an hour from the border anyway and start importing bikes (and cars, etc) en masse, cutting sales of new machines in Canada significantly. This worked in the UK with their "grey market" bikes previously, it'll work here. It seems to be working a little bit at least here out west, you can get a not bad deal and some good throw-ins (like a "free" 5 year extended warranty and an alarm or some such) on a leftover '06 or '07. But the prices on new '08s hasn't moved at all.

I believe the manufacturers WILL finally figure things out in the Canadian market. I work at a bike shop that does out of province inspections (which includes out of country bikes) and the amount of inspections we have done on bikes from the US over the last 2 years is staggering.....and looks like increasing by leaps and bounds again this year. Granted, there are a LOT of HD's but other brands as well.
There is a guy just outside the city that makes serious money importing nothing BUT Harleys!!! He probably brought in at least 40 bikes last year alone. You'd think that's gotta be hurting the local dealers but evidently their new/used sales are doing so well they probably don't see him as a threat, probably because of all the excesss bux in Cowtown.
On used Bandits: a friend of mine is going to pick up a '97 1200 for LESS than $2K with only 8K miles !!! From the pics he sent me, it's totally stock and never been down. Now THAT'S a deal, IMO.

I live in Florida where there are lots of nice Bandits for little money.
Why not fly down and ride back?

when i got my bandit last year i didn't even know what it was. i was looking for a zrx. saw an ad on the web for a bandit 1200 that was close to where i live. liked the look of it in the pic ad said low miles hardly ridden so i go look turns out to be a 2000 with 600 miles on it with a corbin and a D&D can guy wants $3800 to make a long story short. i didn't pay the 38 he wanted but it lives here now and i love it. spent more money on this winter then i paid for it. new holeshot pipe holeshot jet kit advancer new corbin gunfighter s.s. brake and clutch lines better brake pads Cogent Dynamics rear shock and race-tech fork springs gsxr cams and 36 flat-slides. cams and carbs not yet on the bike i wanna get a few more miles on it before i open it up
