There are two I'm looking at:
1 is a Bandit 1200s with a supertrap slip on ans a nice corbin seat. 5100 miles. It's a cold starter yet I think the carbs could be laquered up a bit. Runs great besides that.
2 is a Bandit 1200 unfared and a 2001 model. I haven't rode it but it look real nice. $4200 and $3650 for the 2001.

Go any advice? Cheers all.

Jeez! That's a tough one...I love both bikes and both colours - I didn't really look; are they comparable mechanically? If so... only thing I have to suggest is, if you're a big guy and you think the fairing will protect you so that swings you to the first bike, don't even go there. My fairing on my 650 does basically nada and I chose the bike cuz I figured the fairing would protect me a bit!
Good luck and enjoy the buy!

Thanks, it is a tough one. The big thing is one has a Corbin seat, which my lady really likes. I wonder if I can find a reasonable one similar.
-
do you want to just buzz around town ? then get the s model .if your going to be touring and longer hauls then get the s model, any ???? lol
-
Ok there's a vote for the S. How about that oil burning issue I've read about. Either of these bikes prone to that? Cheers
-
I believe any 2001-2002 Bandit with a VIN number lower than JS1GV77A*22102179 is considered a faulty piston "oil burner".
I'd go with the 2001 unless it falls into the oil-burner range.
-
mothman - you in Raleigh, NC?
PM me if you are and wanna talk Bandits.
Oh, and go for the S!
Dave

Buy the "S" model. You can always strip her top off later if you like the naked look.
-
Meself would go for the naked one. :stickpoke: :stickpoke:
-
Buy the "S" model. I had a nekkid and put a fairing on it. That nekkid beat my brains out. They sure are pretty though.
-
I notice the 2001 comes with some riding gear. Might be a nice"throw in".

Yep... if it's an oil-burner that will help compensate for the extra 2 qts. of oil he has to throw in it every 1000 miles.
-
So we're thinken' the 2000? Well I just need to go out and see the 2001 first. I'll do that on Friday. You do have a point. I could just always take off the fairing. We shall see.
-
All 01s fall into the burner range. Good point about getting the S and going 'naked' later if you want. It's fairly easy with the 00 since the clocks are triple-mounted (rather than in the fairing like 2g bikes). Good luck!
-
Get the 2000 S model. You'll like the fairing for long rides and the Corbin seate is great. The Supertrapp pipe is a good pipe, not the quality of Dale's or a Yosh, but you won't cry if you mash it up. If its cold blooded it probably needs some jetting work which I would do anyway.
-
I'll also vote for the 2000s
-
Well the 2000s it is. Thanks all. I'll get the pics up here soon.
-
Go with the fairing -you'll like it in the long run.
Go with the seat your lady likes... else she won't bet there...
and that's more important than anything.
Been there.
-
I am sure that whatever you choose you will be happy with it. After all they are both Bandits. Me I like the look of the naked model. I am a larger bloke and don't get much protection from the fairing anyway.
Bet your not sleeping well trying to make up your mind
-
Well I got it! The 2000 model. Took me an hour to ride it home. I think this is going to be a very fun bike. It does run a little cold but it only has about 5200 miles on it. Might need a little carb cleaner. Thanks for all the replies everyone. Cheers
-
>>Might need a little carb cleaner.<<
I just put some SeaFoam carb cleaner in my bike and it worked better than I expected. My bike was running a bit rough on startup, even with the warm weather we've been having by me. The SeaForm seems to have eliminated the symptom. You can find the stuff in AutoZone if you have one by you. Highly recommended!
-
congrats on the purchase. enjoy it and stay safe. :):)

Where's the problem? sounds a result to me.
-
Yes it is quite a fantastic bike. I'll try the sea foam you spoke of. I already have about 250 miles on it. Cheers all

i had a 2000 s model before i wadded it into a guard rail anyways?!! great bikes. i yanked my fairing off also and went naked used a buell cyclone m2 fly screen on mine blocked just enough wind. what color is it silver or red? i had silver great bikes miss mine. only had it for about 2 and a half years put over 30000 miles on it. if you need details on the naked swap let me know i sold my fairing and it covered the price to swap to naked and then some. i spent about 250 bucks with the light, mounts, and flyscreen. real easy.

Thanks, man that is a real familiar looking bike. Mine is the same silver, yet with the fairing. I have become rather fond of the small fairing. I'll have to wait and see.
I have a nice naked bike I'm restoring right now. Honda 1979 CB 750 F, a real nice bike. That's why the Bandit appealed to me so much. Both are too much fun. I'll get up a pic tomorrow however I will get up with you about the switch. Naked in town, fairing to the beach or mountains. That'd be fun.
