Well Troy the Boy has done it again. First time out on a Yamaha, since his 250 proddy days in Oz, and he takes pole.
So let's see, what's everyone's predictions.
Will Troy Bayliss do it again on the Duc?
Can Troy Corser find that winning spirit on the Yammy?
Don't ever discount Carl Muggeridge,
Josh Brooks proved he can win races on a Honda here in Oz.
Steve Martin is a hell of a rider, now that is on a 1000cc bike he should give some of the 'bigger' names a scare.
Maybe Max Biaggi can finally win a championship on something bigger than a 'learners' bike.
Nori Haga is always a chance.
So who's your pick??
For me, Troy Bayliss and the Ducati are an unbeatable combination. Providing he stays fit, and doesn't have too many mechanical problems, he'll win the championship, and prove that Foggy was just a pretender.
Then ofcoarse you've got Supersport - two more Aussies there - Kevin Curtain and Broc Parkes - I'm not even going to try and pick a winner here.... 600 racing is just too close to call....

I think Foggy was somewhat more than a pretender, but I do agree with you that Bayliss is pretty hard to dismiss. Corser may make it interesting this year.
My real question is in the new 800cc MotoGP class. Can Rossi get it together and be on top again? Is he really interested? Can Yamaha build a new bike and compete with the Honda onslaught? Suzuki looks like they may have a fighting chance now that everyone is designing new machines. It would be nice to see a competitive Suzuki.
IT should be an interesting season, in both series.

From what I've been reading, Honda screwed up. They thought they could just chop one cylinder of the 990cc V5 and make a race winning 800cc.
Meanwhile, everyone else set about making making what amounts to brand new engines.
I think that Rossi will always be a chance, let's face it he only lost the championship last year because the bike stopped working and he failed to finish a couple of races.
I hope Suzuki can actually do something this year, and not just because of young Chris V. There's always Kawasaki. Who knows - new bikes, some old riders, some very old riders (what's the go with Ilmor and Jeremy McWilliams) and theres some young blokes there. This year will come down to which manufacturer has done their homework, and whose the most reliable - race wins won't win the championship, reliability and consistancy will. Then again Rossi could come out and be reliable and consistantly win every race.....
My pick, Rossi - I begining not to like him, but there's no doubting his ability and talent. Sentimentle favourite, Casey Stoner -

I'll go out on a limb and try for the trifecta
1st place -Troy Bayliss He's already proven himself on the Duc
2nd place- Nori Haga I'm just a Haga fan
3rd place- Troy Corser I was going to say Mad Max, but I'll stick with the odds.

I'm glad to see Bayliss have success in WSB, especially after dismal results in moto gp. After Bayliss wins the WSB title last year he hops on Gibernau's GP bike and wins the final race. Is he on a hot streak or what? Rossi's crew chief Jeremy Burgess says it's 80 percent rider, 20 bike. Of course if I was a crew chief I might say the same thing, putting more responsibility on the rider and off me. But it has to be 50 / 50. Could Rossi win a championship on the kawasaki bike of 2005 / 2006? I doubt it. Frankly, I wish Rossi would jump to Ducati and win a Title on that bike. It'll be fun to watch this seasons racing. My pics, Rossi in Moto GP, Bayliss in WSB. But I'm hoping Hopkins at least wins a race or two. It's hard not to pull for him after hearing his story and all.

I'm also glad for Nicky Hayden in winning the GP title. He did it with consistancy, but also cause Rossi's bike went Kablooey!!!! several times. At least now maybe Hayden is set for life financially and nobody can take that 2006 title away. He'll always be able to say, "I beat Rossi".

Well Max went out and beat the Superbike boys at their own game in Race 1. Race 2, James Toseland took the win.
Bayliss basically failed in both races, but he did say before the race that the Ducati's don't like Losail. Something to do with the heat.
This weekend Phillip Island. I'm not going down, but I will be glued to the TV on Saturday arvo for Superpole and all day Sunday for the races......

It may be that the old 999 will have trouble against the inline fours? I want to see the new 1098 on the track.

I'm wondering how successful Ducati will be getting the FIM & AMA to allow bigger twins - especially since Duc won the WSBK title last year. I don't think anyone's interested in watching it turn into a Ducati racing series.

I wonder if Ducati will be allow Baylis to win again, or field a new winner in the shape of Lorenzo Lanzi, Ruben Xaus or some other team member. I am sure they discuss this type of politics like in any other team sport.

I see the race was last weekend and the Roman Emperor Max on a Suzi took the first round......and Toseland took RD 2 on a Honda......and Speedvision thru can't find time with all the NASCAR programming and sutpid boutique car crap to run the race until tomorrow during the day!!!!!
no primetime, no weekend coverage !!

All very well, but the SPEED channel here in the US of A has gone GAGA for NASCAR, dropping a lot of the bike shows (Rat Bastards!). I seldom see a show featuring the GP bikes any more. Sad. I also miss the Rally Road Races. Can't even dismember the names of the drivers! Used to run rallies in France in the early '60's while stationed at Phalsbourg and Toul Air Bases. Killed a few chickens in my day, I did. Got a huge Hare too. My ride was a (modified) Volvo PV-544. Boy, that was the life.
