Title: free beer and pizza in Wichita
Post by: StangMATA on November 19, 2007, 02:52:26 PM
I need help setting up a set of gears in my Bronco. If anyone in the area can set up gears and is willing to help, there is free beer and pizza for you and whoever wants to watch. I'm willing to travel.

Are you doing just one axle? Front or rear?  The 9" isn't too hard to deal with since you can do it on a workbench, but the Dana fronts are a little more of a PIA.  Proper tools are a must though.

I have the 8.8 rear. The front is a Dana 44 TTB so the chunk actually comes out of the front axle.

Would you be willing to help? I'm only looking to regear the rear axle now.

I'm ~2,000 miles away from Wichita.

And differential set-up is one thing I take to the pros.  I've done a standard Dana 44 rear before, but since I know a guy who'll do a set-up for $100 (axle out of the rig), I've taken all my diff set-ups to him and just work a little overtime @ work to pay for it.  That way I don't have to invest in the special tools needed either.

I'm really wanting to learn and I know there are some guys out there that are really good at it and do it out of their garage. I'm living the apartment life now, so taking the axle out of the truck really isn't an option. Maybe I can find some way around that....

My guy will do it in the rig, but charges more.  All the axles I've had done were out for other reasons anyway (ie; axle swaps), so it didn't make any sense to pay the extra for me.

So, are you changing ratios, or has something gone south?
Might be a good time to consider swapping the 8.8 for the 9...

I'm going to 4.56's. I can't do a 9" swap. I have an E4OD tranny that requires the VSS sensor in the rear. If I was going to do a swap I'd go with a 10.25. But then I'd need 8'lug wheels and an 8-lug conversion for the TTB.
