HELP! - Trip through PA, WV, OH, etc.
« on: August 07, 2007, 11:48:14 AM »
Hey all...

I'm planning a trip out, and i'm looking for some good route ideas, Points of Interest, etc.

The General plan is to, from Albany, Head southwest toward Central PA, then south to WV, Across the border to OHIO and then round up to Chicago.

Right now, having a fun time using google earth to look at little green streaks and quilted farmland, but it is not so descriptive. I'd rather get the word from the rider's mouth.

So, I'm open to all suggestions for local routes and interesting places to check out. I'll be camping my way through these states, so if anyone has experience with National/state parks along the way, it would also be useful.

Thanks!!

The "PA Grand Canyon" (it has a more official name.... Pine Creek Gorge maybe) is worth seeing and has fantastic roads around. I can't think of the town ATM but it's at the intersection of 6 and 15 in North-central PA.  Most of the roads in that part of the state between 6 and I80 have potential.  The Allegheny National Forest, which is west of there is beautiful. Check out this thread for some upstate PA info.  Here is a link to PA's stat parks.  HAVE FUN and be safe.

Did you leave yet? If the rt. is more important than the miles, I'd follow the west edge of the Monongahela Nat. forest down to Summersville. Then 19 s. to 60 west. Then ,Oh my Gauley, I'd ride Along the Gauley river towards Charleston. Took that rout in JUly, but the bike was in the back of the van. I kept telling my wife, I gotta take this rt. on the bike some time! :beers: Dan

Hey Dan...  I know it's tough to tell because there's so little activity in this forum but the post is a little over a year old....
