Title: Need Info On Tioga County, PA
Post by: Vidrazor on April 03, 2007, 04:41:58 PM
I'm thinking of doing a ride this spring up to the "Grand Canyon Of Pennsylvania" in Tioga County, PA. I'd like any info from anyone who's been there or is from the area about:

A) roads to ride
B) cheap, decent lodging
C) good and/or cheap eats
D) other things to check out in the area, etc.

Looks like the nearest sign of civilization in the area is a town called Wellsboro, any info of any neat stuff to do there or nearby is appreciated.

Thanks for any info on  this

Yeah - I get through there every year.  Wellsboro is a quaint little town.  Not a lot going on but there are a couple hotels and a couple decent looking bars.  There's obviously good canoeing and tubing on Pine Creek (which carves the canyon).  I've never fished it but I imagine there's good trout fishing (possibly other gamefish including musky).  There are tons of good roads around.  Rt 44 which is west of Wellsboro is spectacular.  It's been a few years since I was on it but the road surface wasn't the best.  Most of the countryside along Rt 6 west of Wilkes Barre is beautiful and full of good roads.

Have fun!

As I posted up top in General, I've been looking over my Pa. topo map for the squggliest lines I could find.I was thinking of getting away sometime and either camp at a state park or on a bike it may easier to just get a room somewhere. There are some st. parks off of 120 in the Sproul st forest,or maybe get a room in Imporium, or Coudersport.(or Wellsboro in Tioga co) rt 555 looks pretty squiggly, I'd like to hit that rt too. I'd probably come across rt. 6. It would be a new adventure for me, and its not all that far. If I can't make it to the Bandit rally down south, maybe I can just head east for a overnighter and get some riding in.  Dan

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like 6 is the mainline into the grand canyon area, so I'll probably cruise in from there. Not sure yet when I'm doing this, maybe Memorial Day weekend, or perhaps a little later when things warm up(and green up) a bit more.

By Memorial Day, it should be plenty warm and about 90% green.  I've fished up there in mid-April in the mid 70s and turkey hunted in late May with almost full foliage.
