I'm taking my daughter to ride the 6s on Thursday. We'll be leaving Toronto mid Wednesday and riding to somewhere south of Erie. Then Thursday will be spent running the 6's in NWPA. We'll end up in Ithica NY on Thursday night, then back to TO on Friday.

Any tips? Food stops? Accommodations? Things to see? Things not to see?

We'll be turning north before Scranton so we won't be seeing any of the hills of eastern PA.

The PA Grand Canyon (Near Wellsboro) is a nice stop. Its a huge gorge and there is a road that goes around the rim. Also there is a town named Benezette. There is a herd of Elk here in PA that are usually laying in peoples yards. Google either of those and you should get alot of ideas.
There is an outlook called Hyner View(really thats what its called) that is real nice and the road leading up to it is supposed to be one of the twistiest in PA. Just be careful as some of the corners never see sunlight and there is moss growing on the road!!

If you have time for a detour, I highly recommend heading South on 44 in Coudersport. You can probably look at a map and pick up 287 (or something like that) to come back up to Wellsboro to see the Grand Canyon. The section of 6 you miss is BORING. 44 is truly one of the prettiest roads I've ever been on. Some day I need to get the bike up there. I've only caged it so far. Have fun!

+1 on Rt44. The only downside to it is some sections are pretty rough. Alot of good riding in north central PA and not alot of traffic on the side roads. Look out for the deer though as they are everywhere!

If you get as far south as Waterville, go to the Waterville Hotel for lunch. They have a 1/2 pound "Mountain Burger" thats really good. Never had a bad meal there and the prices are good. Most all of the restaurants in that area are decent so don't be turned off if they look rough on the outside.

Be sure and tell us what route you took and how you liked it when you get back.

See, that's what I luv about this forum, good feedback. Great tips and as a result we're stayin in Williamsport on the second night. We'll let you know how it goes.

I'm not sure of your plans but if you're looking to get back up to Wellsboro from W'port (a trip I make a couple times a year), slabbing up 15 to 414 then 287 is a decent, resonably direct way to go. 414 and 287 are both nice rides.

+1 on the deer alert, though!

Okay, it was really flippin freezin.

We got away late on Wednesday, 3pm, instead of 10am. We took 219 south from Buffalo and then 86 west towards Jamestown. the exit to 62 south was closed and they sent us on some stupid zigzag detour. Finally on 62, the sun sinking fast and running out of gas, we're still pushing hard to make it to Titusville to a room we have booked. Then we get lost. I made the classic mistake of thinking I knew where I was only to turn right where I should've turned left and then the trouble compounded. The last hour was very cold. We got to our hotel ten minutes after the hot tub closed.

The next day I realized that my daughter didn't have it in her to make it to Williamsport and then back to TO the next day - I didn't either. We did 666 to 948, then south to 66 and then back up to 6 where we had lunch at Pepe's Pizza in Kane. From there we went north on 219 to Bradford and then west on 346 around the Allegany Forest. We ended up taking a room in Springville, half way up 219 towards Buffalo.

The next morning we went east on 39 to 16 and then north to the 400 and into Buffalo. That little stretch of 39 between Springville and Sardinia was a real treat. It was newly paved and had great curves which at the right speed became corners. I know this because I discovered it the night before. After we checked in I checked out for a little solo ride.

The best moment had to be the two corkscrews about halfway through 666. They weren't too far apart and they both did a nice little dipsy doodle esss.

The worst moment was the drop. Yup, I dropped the bike. I slowed right down, almost to a stop and then did a u-turn. Halfway round and the bike just tipped right over. Broke a corner off my windshield and the tip off my clutch lever, dang.

All told it was vvvery cold. We had fun though and it was a great father daughter get away, but I'd luv to do it again without the cargo.

Sounds like one to remember anyway! Too bad you couldn't get a little further east as I know you would have enjoyed it. I'm only about a half an hour from Williamsport. If you get the opportunity, and make another trip, post up and maybe I can show you some of the hidden gems around here.

Sorry about the drop. Maybe a nice smoke double bubble in your future?!

Kinzua Dam area is really scenic. I'll be in Warren County on Memorial Day weekend and riding my butt off. Amen on the deer alert in that area. The Allegheny National Forrest is beautiful and dangerous. Way cool riding with your daughter
