Title: Pitter's Tour of Chester County, PA 8/14
Post by: PitterB4 on August 10, 2005, 09:47:37 AM
For those of you nearby that have given up on that Ephrata thread, I'm going to show 12sdrag and a few freinds some of my favorite local roads on Sunday.

Here are my plans which are certainly open to suggestion:

Meet at the Wawa in Avondale, PA (Rt 41 and Baltimore Pike near the Rt 41 exit of Rt 1) at 9am.  From there, head south briefly into DE hitting Rts 7/82/100.  Then back into PA on 100 and hit Rts 842/841/52/82.  Depending on how things are going, we can head into Northern ChesCo, above Coatesville, on 82 and run through French Creek park on 345 or just stay down in the Southern part of the county below Rt30.

I realize 9am might be a bit early for those further away.  We can move it back if you want but we risk increased traffic later in the day.  I also have some family commitments later in the afternoon.

Post up if any one is interested or has any comments.

Chris - take 10 like you are coming to my house.  Go left on 41.  The Wawa will be right after you cross over Rt 1.

Paul - I'll try to get a pic of an amish buggy just for you.  If not, I'll at least try to get one of a road apple!

See ya fellas at 9 on Sunday.

I'm a newb here but I've been lurking quite a bit since I now have a Bandit 400. I'm in Chester Springs, PA.

FYI most of 23/345 going out to French Creek State park has just been repaved and very pristine. I just was out there for a mtn bike ride and couldn't help opening up the car a bit considering what a mine field it used to be.

I'm hoping to make your ride tomorrow Pitter, looks like you know alot of the roads I know, it should be a good time.

Sounds like a good group!

Tomac - the guys I usually ride with are mostly up in northern Chesco.  It wouldn't be a Sunday up there without a romp through 345.

Yeah - was a little steamy!  WHEW!

Met with 12sdrag on his 01 B12 and friend on a Vulcan, Gary on his B12, tomacGTi on a nicely modded B4 and friend on a Sportster for the much ballyhooed tour of Chester County PA.  Well, I was having mechanical difficulties (when am I not??) before I even got there.  Seems when it's warm outside, my right coil takes a little vacation.  It ran well enough for a while and we were able to hit a couple of my favorite roads.  Then it started acting up again.  Luckily, I was able to limp my new Bandit 200    to Cdyer's house.  He wasn't able to make the ride but I knew he had a coil there.  Thanks, Chris!!!  So, between the fairly frequent stops to rehydrate and cool my bike, a half-hour killed while I swapped a coil, we didn't get as much riding in as I'd hoped.  Still, we hit a bunch of my favorite roads.

It was great meeting some new folks.  It was a real nice group.  Hopefully, we'll get a chance to ride together again.  I still have to show you the southern half of the loop I had planned.  Oodles of parking lot pics to follow!

And here we are at the beautiful Turkey Hill (a convenience store chain in the Lancaster, PA area).  Just for you, Paul:

We spent much of the day following the Brandywine Creek up and down.  We made one stop on a nice canopied section of Rt 282.  282 is a very scenic road but not ideal for ripping on a bike.  Lots of tarstrips, busted up pavement and blind turns.  Pictured is Junior, Randy and Gary.

Oh - I almost forgot the site of the day - a guy (mid-50s maybe) on a green, 2G B12N in shorts and flipflops - nothing else.  I couldn't get the camera out quick enough!  :banghead:
