Anyone used the Audioboss system? I'd like to be able to mix audio from a minidisc player and FRS/GMRS radio, and this system seems like just the key. However, my roommate had one for about a day before returning it- he said it was almost impossible to hear over road noise and the microphone wasn't much better. The makers offered to send him a new one, but he just returned it. How have your experiences with it been? Just as poor, or did he just get a bad one?

There's a couple of reviews of the AudioBoss over at ST.N

And here for the other.

Negatives: Not as beefy as Autocomm ($400+), music is mono in both speakers, not stereo. Music isn't superb through the speakers, but OK.

Got the Autocom recommendation from Chris Ampster, who highly recommended it.  I bought the popular Active 7 Smart unit, which hard wires into your bike.  I absolutley love the stereo/music sound of this thing, at all speeds it is crystal clear.  I can not comment on a FRS or GMRS type of use, because I don't have wither one yet.  I have not even hook the mic up to my helmet yet, other than to test it out.  When I did hook it up, it faded the music as soon as I started to talk, then brought the music back, very cool.  My system was $279.00 and I felt it was worth it so far.  My cell phone is not compatible with any handsfree kits, so I can't use it there; which is fine, because I like to ride to get away from the phone anyways.  Looks like GPS would work fine with this system for the turn by turn, but the Garmin Quest (the sys. I have) is not set up with an audio jack to plug into my Autocom yet, so we will have to see if Garmin develops something later for it.  On a side note, just glancing down at the unit and reading the turn by turn, has been sufficient to prevent me from getting lost.  If you are going to get an Autocom, may I recommend that you use the US dealer, called Top Gear, instead of dealing with the UK, where these are manufactored.  I had great tech. support and assistance from the folks at Top Gear, and they have an 800 number to call.  Good luck and PM me if you need anything else.
