Title: Bike cover
Post by: chupacabra on June 25, 2005, 07:07:10 AM
I'm looking for a bike cover thats not to big to take with me all the time. My bike is fading from Marble Italian red to pretty  :duh: pink. I'm going to get painted and want to cover my hard work from the sun. Has any one tried one of those half covers that just cover to top half of your bike? What size do I want to buy? I do cover my bike at home but really don't want to carry that big thing around with me.
What do you guys think?
 Dave

I've had a couple of the lighter, 'full' covers, that pack up small enough in an included bag to haul around with you.
Can't remember the maker or model of the current one I have, but I bought it from J. C. Whitney.

WallyWorld has some pretty cheap covers....only two sizes though.  The smaller one might be what you are looking for since it doesn't go all the way to the ground.  I bought the larger one - too big really but it goes on easier and drapes to the floor.  I would not want the larger one to be outside in a wind without some tie-downs.  I mainly use mine to keep the sawdust off the bike in the garage while doing various projects.

When using a cheap cover, be careful about the exhaust.

One of my daughters got me a cheap cover from Wally World or Schucks or something. It'll pack up pretty small, but like tx, I just use mine to keep crap off the bike in the garage.

One of those shorty covers you mentioned should be perfect for keeping the paint from fading.

This is what I use:

Its small enough to fit in a tank bag or tail pack, and does a good job of protecting from the suns rays'

I just looked at the cover I have.  It's a COVERMAX, bought it a year or so ago, fits both my B12, and my DR650.   They also have a half cover, a little cheaper.
  For the $$, it's a deal.

I haven't put it on either bike while it was smoking hot.  Usually it's a couple of minutes after I put the cover on.....while I'm taking off my helmet, gloves....pulling off luggage, etc.
