Dynojet Stage 1 Kit
« on: January 27, 2006, 07:59:20 PM »
In addition to my previous post (Yosh slip on), I also had the dealer install a stage 1 jet kit from Dynojet.  I hesitated on buying it given the amount of negative feedback I've read from other people, but decided to go for it since I was paying the dealer to install it and could bring the bike back if I had problems.  It was a short ride home from the dealer (about 10 miles), so this isn't exactly a thorough review. I can say that I didn't notice any problems whatsoever.  Idled fine, accelerated smoothly, constant rpm on the highway with no glitches, etc.  When the warmer weather gets here, I will follow-up with more.

I don't think that the Dynojet is "bad" per se. It just needs a hell of alot more tweeking than Holeshot or Ivan's. However if you're a shop with all kinds of fancy oxygen sensors and stuff like that you could probably make Soviet copies of Bing Carbuerators from WWII work. The thing about Holeshot and Ivan's is the plug and playability, anyone who is not an uber tuner can get them dialed in pretty good.

Good point.  God knows if I tried to do the work, I'd be pushing the bike to the shop to get fixed!

I had dynojet kit fitted to my gen 1 B12, I think that is all that is available in Oz. No problems at all, dyno tuned runs perfectly after you throw away all the jets and just use the needles and sort the jets out from what the shop stocks. After the entire kit was fitted the bike actually lost power over stock. 110 hp at the wheel with pipe and muffler, 118 hp after jet kit added and sorted.

One big thing that I like about Holeshot was that by reading the directions, you can tell that a lot of time and care went into it.  I have a dynojet  stage III on my other bike mainly because that is all is offered for it.  It was nice because it gave me adjustable needles, but that was about it.  Also there wasn't a whole lot to the instructions.  I personally can't afford to have a shop tune my bikes, so I need a setup that I can do the majority, if not all of the work myself.  I definitely found that in the Holeshot kit.

This is after my initial installation and it was really close with the initial settings set by Dale.  I've only done some minor tweaking since the installation.  At the bottom, you can see the air/fuel mixture at the bottom.  They told me it was close, but no one would explain why or how.  From what I have read, you want it in the area of 13 for your mixture.  I have the details of what it exactly said about the air/fuel mixture range and what you are shooting for.

Wow! that is close, almost perfect. 14 to 1 is supposedly the perfect max fuel economy setting but don't snap the throttle. I think you have it pretty bang on with max power of 12 to 1 in the upper mid range and 14 to 1 down low where you cruise and want better milage. You could probably tweak it slightly leaner if you wanted a little more milage but looking at your dyno it probably drives great. Good job sir! The only little snag is a slight lean spot at 5000 but you're probably going past it so fast you don't even notice.

As Darth Vader would say:

Impressive!!

I tried adding another shim to try and help that lean spot and the bike thanked me by running worse overall.
