Title: Flashy boots or no?
Post by: jbrough7 on April 29, 2006, 07:44:49 AM
I'm looking at getting new boots and the colour seems to be holding me back more than anything else.  My Bandit is candy apple red so I'm kinda thinking red Sidi's or some such to go with it.  Always loved bright colours....but would the bright colour suck after a little while and make me pine for black??  Can't decide.

Wish my mother was around still to tell me what to do!

Only a little girly-man sissy would wear that medieval armor!

You'd be surprised what girly-guys can do!  I used to think gardening was just for them and I'm just about dead today after digging up dandelions and planting a few (very pretty) flowers!

Dude, I'm gonna look for some more "P" pics to post.  Maybe it'll get that testosterone level up!  :stickpoke:

Jim,

Personally, I prefer standard black boots or mostly black with a little color.  That's just me.  Do whatever YOU think is best.  Sometimes I ride with a textile jacket and blue jeans.  Red boots would look a little strange, in my opinion.

What if you have to wear them to a formal dinner?

Good point!  Can you imagine if i had those on and the queen of england came to dinner?  Sheeshh!!

It's good to get others' opinions.  I saw some really cool-looking boots on ebay once and started bidding.  I showed my boy and he said they were really 'gay'.  so then i asked 12 people and they ALL said they were 'gay.  They did have a lot of white on them but they were also blue, although i must say it was not a real masculine blue...

Desolation - i found that girlie site REALLY looking for the triumph bike site and it is awesome.

I was looking for info on the speed four, I believe.  You guys get it in the US and it's only something like$6499 but it's not even available here!  Rip!

You know they're not making it anymore.  No more fours.  Twins and triples only.

it sounds like you may be fashion impaired.

If you care what others think--  Stick with black-you can't go wrong :bigok:

If you don't care what others think--get whatever you like.  If anyone gives you crap kick their @$$ with your lavender/mauve boots, and that will put an end to it.

Tundra:  I just about died laughing when I read your comment!! :thanks:

Good one!

Can you just see some guy telling his buds he got beat up by a fairy wearing lavender boots?  NOT!!

I wonder if fashion impairment can be passed on to your kids?  My son just loved bright colours too - had to bright pink rubber boots when he was a young buck...then his little friends told him pink was for girls and he switched to black and never....well , you know what they say!

Now he's 6'2" and a pretty good linebacker.  If I mentioned the pink boots, I think he might pick me up and break me in two.

OK, Jim, I'll get serious for two seconds.  I've worn these since the '70s.  Never found anything that suits me better.

When I used to ride ALOT many moons ago I would have a cobbler put steel taps on the toes and heels.

I actually like the looks of the boots you posted.  Pretty sharp!  Just not my thing, you know.  I specifically DO NOT want to look like Boy Racer on my bike.  I prefer the standard '70s style of heavy black leather boots, black leather jacket (not that Harley sh!t), and a set of black leather gauntlets.  Leather lasts forever.  My late parents bought me my gloves in the mid '70s and I wear them to this very day.  Perhaps with just a touch of sentimentality.

You Joe Rocket type guys, hey, your stuff looks cool and is probably really protective.  I just don't dig it for me.  Maybe if I were younger...

I know what you're saying cuz i'm kinda a tweener - i like the basic black motorcycle boot as well along with black gloves and leather jacket.  Hey - I can have TWO wardrobes!!!  (Honey!!  I've got TWO closets full of nothing to wear!!)

Jim,

I have a pair of these Oxtar boots. They're waterproof and very comfortable. I can wear them all day at work with no discomfort.

Who you callin' a power ranger????  I have these, but have not been wearing them on the street much - wearing just some black, Nike hightop hiking boots instead:

I'd love to get something like chupacabra has.  That's likely my next  m/c related purchase.

I'm not into the Power Ranger look either. If I were to by a pair of racing boots, they'd be in basic black.

I ride with these:

With my pant legs pulled over the top, they look pretty normal.

How about basic black boots and nothing else?  Oh, no, it's the BIKE that's supposed to be naked! :duh:

Thanks for the tip, Gary.  They sure look beautiful...too bad they're above my $24.00 price point!

Seriously, I love your little bit at the bottom of your message.  I also hate people who are too lazy to do the job themselves but then don't mind standing there giving you advice or criticism when YOU are doing it!

Sorry, I feel better now.

i too have worn the "cowboy" type boot for 40+ years.

just bought some alpinestar gortex all weather boots and am having trouble shifting with them.

may be beacause they are still stiff, but it seems that the foot and sole part are much thicker than my old boots making it difficult to fit my toe under the shifter.

i have adjusted the shifter to the max up and will see if that works.
next is to move the shifter one spline and see how that is if the above does not work.  think i will just keep adjusting up untill it fits right.

if i get it high enough for upshifts i may need to lift my foot too far off the peg for downshifts.  in that case i will have one pair of alpinstars for sale cheap.

a friend had his scuba gear stolen so he replaced it with pink stuff.  never had it stolen since.   because the thief would be easy to spot,,,,or?????

UPDATE: just gave it a try after adjustment and all is fine now.  may even be a little too high but i'll leave it for now

Hey Red 01, are these boots OK with the bandit? Do you have any problems shifting? I am buying the Sidi Sport Tepor from NE and am wondering if it will be OK to use with the Bandit. Pauls comment on it says that they are difficult with some sportbikes.

The sole of those looks the same as what my On-Roads are... and they aren't a problem. (and my pegs are further up & aft than stock, so they'd be more sportbike-like than stock location pegs.) My boots have taken a while to break in - but hopefully that means they'll last a long long time.

It is all fun and games until your Tibia punches a hole in your boot and gets ground off on the highway:

There certainly is. I highsided my '96 1200 and it landed on me when I hit the road. It broke my leg badly enough to push the bones out the front of my leg, through the boot and onto the road.

This is how much bone I lost:

No boot, no foot. I am glad I was in the right gear.

OMG!  Do I understand that you didn't lose your foot, though?  That crash might just keep me off bikes for good!

Did that grow back together or did they have to bone graft?

Yeah, it all stayed attached thanks to my boot but they did end up taking a piece of my hip to fill the void.
I didn't see it as a reason to stop riding but rather to keep wearing good gear.
