ok, ive got a Suomy gunwind R series lid that i paid 300 odd quid for, but it has a non removable lining. i'd like to freshen it up a bit.
anyone got any tips on how to clean the lining :?:
or is just hot soapy water the best.

As a standard practice, I shove as much newspaper as will fit
into my helmet after riding. Seems to keeps things from getting
to rank. Also spraying just a little bit of SimpleGreen on the
newspaper will take care of some rankness.
As to getting your helmet back to a fairly clean state, I'd
suggest hot water and CLR cleaner.
:beers: :beers: :beers:

As a courier mate I know about rank helmet linings, after it gets wet it stinks, so what I used on my old helmet with non removable liner.
The good old dish washing liquid, if you like even the nice lemon sented if it so turns you on. Hot water and leave to soak for half hour, rinse well.
Now to dry the sucker, there aint no way quick to dry it out. The best I have found is the old kitchen urn, a couple of towels on top of the urn, and 24 hours later nice and dry, smelling nice clean. But I have since bought a helmet with a removable liner just for ease of washing and drying it.

Or you could do what I do when the helmet gets a bit wiffy, grab one of the other 10 or so I've got laying around the place, and let it air out for a couple of days.

thanks guys! cleaned it yesterday with fairy liquid and scolding hot water. took a bit of scrubbing but now it looks like new again.

The treasurer bought me a Motorex product (Helmet Care) a couple of days ago that seems to work alright.

Oh yeh, looks pretty rank don't it.
Think how an aussie helmet would be like after a week or 2 couriering 10 hours a day in 30 to 40 c weather. Rank is an understatement.

After having a helmet with a removable liner, all helmets have to have that feature in my book or they don't get considered.

I'm with you there 100% Paul. :bigok:
After having the new lazer flip lid, with the removable liner, and as a courier it just makes it so easy to both clean and dry, overnight.

Between wasings I like to spray the inside down with a deodorizer like All or Fabreeze brands a nice spring or no sent. Just remmember that you did that and there really nobody with a weird perfume hiding behind you.
The first couple of times I did this I kept think someone was following me  and I really wanted to know how it was cause they smell nice! Images of a long legged beuty floating in my head

I use a similar method as the "dish soap" one....but I use shampoo. Does wonders with the yuk and smells like I just got out of the shower! I dry the old bucket by leaving it over the A/C vent in the floor with the visor up. It's usually dry by morning. After seeing that water after the first washing I decided it would be better to follow the directions on the bottle..."lather, rinse, repeat!" Worked like a charm! Good luck.
RIDE ON! :bigok:
