Has anyone tried the Joe Rocket rain liners that they have for the mesh jackets? If so, do you like it? Some evenings it's gets a little too cool for just the mesh. Does it stop the wind sufficiently?

I have the Alter Ego, which is a textile jacket with a removeable shell to make it a mesh jacket. It uses a rain liner for wet/cool weather. I find it's comfortable to ~40*F with a sweatshirt, but I'm sure there's a significant benefit to having the textile shell over the mesh. Haven't tried it with the liner in and the shell off though, so I can't say for sure. I can say that I think the Alter Ego, or a similar jacket from one of the other outfits, is a great do-it-all jacket. I haven't worn my 3/4 length JR Tahoe jacket since I got the Alter Ego.

I have the first gen Phoenix jacket a couple of years ago and bought the liner for it after having the Phoenix for a couple of weeks.
It is nice to wear the two together during the morning commute and then just the Phoenix in the late afternoon ride home.
I usually have my tailbag with me and just throw the liner in it and go.

I have used both the water proof jackets and the ones with the liners and believe me the ones with the "liners" are nothing even close to water-proof.... Hope that helps. Always but the water-proof jacket and not the water-proof "liner"....Banditone1250s :stop:

I find the liner on the Alter Ego is waterproof.. but the rest of the jacket isn't, so whatever is in your pockets will get wet, and then the whole thing will have to dry off. Bit silly, really.
I've hosed mine down with silicone spray, and that helps, but the shell still absorbs some water.
However the liner does help a lot with keeping out the wind when it's cold.

Ditto with my experience with the Alter Ego (1st version). I haven't siliconed mine though... sounds like a great idea though.
My son has a similar TourMaster/Cortech convertible jacket and he hasn't complained of getting wet - and he's been riding in the rain a lot more than I've been lately. I usually only ride in the wet when I get caught in it and don't do much intentional wet weather riding.

All the Joe Rocket 5.0 Ballisitic is water proof and I have been able to put it to the test and it is water proof. As a matter of fact the last time that I used it I did not have the bottoms with me and I just used a regular rain suit bottom and my top kept dryer than my bottoms did. The 5.0 works really well... All the Joe Rocket 5.0 Ballisitic is water proof and I have been able to put it to the test and it is water proof.
As is the similar Joe Rocket Meteor. My experience with the Meteor is the same (very happy) performance as described above. The zip-in liner is for warmth. It's too hot for summer riding unless you're talking cool mornings, hot days, cool nights. Then it's a good alla-round choice. But for July and August, not a good choice.
