My Two Cents On the Corbin Gunfighter Seat

In short, not happy.

After plunking down over $500 I expect this seat to literally kiss my ass everytime I sit on it. Well, not even close. The quality and construction is clearly top notch but the riding position and over all comfort is anything but.

Firstly, the seat is shaped so that it moves the rider back away from the tank and therefore makes you have to reach for the handlebars. This also makes it hard to scoot up on the tank when riding the twisties because moving forward on the seat means you end up sitting on a hump.

Secondly, it hurts my left thigh. As a design feature they intentionally make the saddle wider than the stock seat which is supposed to increase the surface area and disperse your body weight , theoretically, making for a more comfortable ride. For me it simply ends up hitting the back of my thigh in just the wrong place.

I am 5-11 and 180lbs. I can see this seat working really well for someone a little taller and heavier than me.

Needless to say I regret this purchase and am left wondering what other alternative there is.

Anyone interested in buying a very slightly used Corbin Gunfighter seat?

Seems like Corbin just completely disses the Bandit these days (Both the 1200 and 1250)

They make their money with the squid bikes... Ricky Dipshit Racer needs comfort for his 280lb ass on a GSXR600 in order to be able to cruise around town at 15mph for 6 hours on a Saturday night...

Those guys are 90% of Corbin's business.... the lard-asses who want to look cool on a race-bike.

Corbin makes plenty of money there... no need to impress the Bandit crowd.

I wonder if a set of handle bar risers like the ones I installed might help you with the longer reach.

You live in SoCal? Go to Hollister and have them shape the seat to your liking...it is done at no charge to you and you'll also get a tour of the factory while you're there...plus a lunch.

When I had my VFR, I rode down to Hollister from Edmonton and had my seat reshaped...the difference was night and day...you tell them what you don't like about the seat then they get to work...they also let you test ride it until the shape is exactly what you want. Then they put the skin back on and send you on your way.

Wow, seriously? Were you able to get it done in a day? Because if I can get this thing re-shaped then that would be great.

I think I did read something on their website about getting on free adjustment but it sounded like there were too many "yeah but if'" circumstances that would then negate the 'free-ness" of the adjustment.

I am going to look them up right now and see just where Hollister is.

Yes they do it in less than a day. Call them first and make an appointment...then show up first thing in the morning, you should be done by mid-afternoon. The day I was there it was somewhat amusing, the lineup was Harley, Harley, Harley, Harley, Harley, VFR, Harley, Harley :rofl:

The only way that you get charged is if the skin has to be replaced, my adjustments were so drastic that I had to have it re-skinned but even then they gave me a $50 discount on the new skin. FWIW I had the 'bucket' moved up an inch and lowered 1/2", plus had the sides of the bucket shaved off so that I could transition easily off the side of the seat. Then I had the pillion area made thicker which raised the back of the bucket to provide lower back support. After that, 14+ hour days in the saddle were a breeze. The major benefit to me was that I bought the seat used on e-bay for dirt cheap and even after the reshape and re-skin I was still under what a new seat would have cost. The trip down to get it reshaped was a wash because I rode down to Monterey to watch the Superbike races that year :bigok:

I call Corbin two days ahead of time on my trip to California last summer from Louisiana. Set up and appointment for 6:30AM. Took care of me right away modifying the seat on my DL1000. You can sit in the cafe` right next to the area where they modify your seat and drink cold drinks, coffee, etc. I was out of there in about 3 hrs on my way to Sequoia Park.
