Title: Rain suit recommendations
Post by: Desolation Angel on September 14, 2005, 11:12:45 AM
I did a search and didn't see this covered.  I'm thinking of carrying a rainsuit in my topcase for unexpected wet moments.  Would anyone who's used a few please give me your recommendations?

Thanks!

I carry a cheap walmart rain jacket and pants, they work good on my commute (15-20 minutes).  The key is to make sure the wrists and the ankles have a way to close.

For longer rides I think I'd look into a good 1-piece suit.

I've got an old Fieldsheer suit I had for probably 5-6 years.  It has served well when needed.  I usually wear my weatherproof FirstGear stuff when I'm going out for more than a day.  The Fieldsheer goes on pretty well over my leather jacket, too.  It's a b!tch to get back off without taking off the leather, though.  I think I paid about $50 or so back then.  It's lined with a fishnet type liner that eases the sweaty issue.  Hope that helps.

I use on of them over suits that the snow skiers use, cheap as, water proof, storm proof. Keep a look out for one of them after ski season clearance sales. $10. folds in one its own pockets, packs up to a 10 x 4x 3 inch with waist belt.

I have Wintex rain gear(2pcs) Sidi On Roads boots and fieldshear water proof gloves. Even though I don't like to ride in the rain I can and stay dry all day.

Check out Frogg-Toggs at <www.frogg-toggs.com>.  They're made from a breathable fabric, very light and packable and fairly cheap at atout $60 for two piece suit.

I think they're available in black, grey or orange colors.

I got the Stearns brand at Wal Mart.  $25 for jacket and pants that fit over my normal gear.  Works great!!

Best deal out there and it really works perfectly.

Same here.

I used some slip-on boot covers I picked up at the local dealer to keep the H2O out of my JR boots, but now have a pair of Sidi On-Road's that are waterproof.

I'm gonna try the Wal-Mart route as a starter, although I hate Wal-Mart as a general rule.  Long story.

Thanks guys, I'm saving this thread for reference.

Buy big!
I got XXXL and I'm not a particularly big guy.  It allows you cover all the bases and gives you room to move.

You don't have to go to Wally World - but you get the idea... any decent, inexpensive rainsuit. Maybe a surplus store, sporting goods, Costco, whatever.
