Title: videocamera setup?
Post by: edsrockin on April 09, 2007, 08:36:08 PM
hey all

i am looking into setting up a videocamera and mount for my b6. can anyone offer any first hand advice/criticisms about doing so? such as things that worked, didn't work, why,  why not, recommendations, cautions, etc., that type of thing.

i seem to like the tank mount options out there, but a side fairing perspective may be neat also. any opinions would be welcome. thanks.

I uded the fuel cap outer ring as a pattern and milled a 1/2" thick HDPE plate so that the gas cap couled be opened while it was mounted. three of the six screws in the tank ring dont actually screw into the tank and I used those to mount the camera holder which matches the filler ring and extends rearward about six inches. I tapped a hole in the mounting plate for a 1/4 20 bolt that any standard phototripod head will screw in to (I use a Slik). i found that there was a vibration problem caused by the plate being cantilevered over the rear portion of the tank so I added a wedge of High density PE foam to fill the gap. Been rock solid since.

While I was at bike week I saw this, pretty cool:

We hired helmet camera's for a mates funeral, the pic's where great, a riders view not a tank top view. It comes out every year when we all get together for a drink and remember one of our lost courier mates, and to see how bad our runamuk rides look  to the public

I've been thinking about picking up a helmet camera but have not justified the cost!

Were ordering this set up for a test I'm doing at work perhaps I'll need to borrow it on weekends!

I have authority in my life that imposes harsher penalties.  If the wife saw a video of my hooliganism, I would be riding a moped.  I guess you could video a poker run for the wife and hide the rest with your playboys or at that one friends house that we all have that never gets married.

Hey guys I just bought one of those cam set ups from a local dealer and I wanted to try it out this weekend but Mrs. Bandit #999 has other plans for me
Here's a link to the offer from Donald, don't know if it's cheaper for you to get one from him but you can compare and see if there is a savings at his price.

I won't get anything out of this cuz I already bought one, I also bought two 2Gig high speed (150X) SD cards here:
MemorySuppliers.com fastest chip I could find at a good price, same disclaimer as above.

That is the same set up I was talking about in my earlier post? Still waiting to get the one at work, were performing an ultimate pressure test on an airplane window and I really don't want to be near it while under pressure if she blows. I figured this would be a cheap enough set up and I could use it on the weekends if it does not get destroyed!

Boeings chicken cannon does not shoot a fast as ours!

Here is a calibration shot I performed last year at 550 knots!
