Yoshimura RS3 Carbon-Fiber Slip On
« on: January 27, 2006, 02:33:10 PM »
Just picked up my '05 1200S from the dealer last night, so this is only my initial impression.  I started the bike at the dealership and was initially surprised (and maybe disappointed) that the exhaust was slightly quieter at idle than the stock unit.  The ride to the highway seemed to have about equal noise levels as the stock.  On the highway, accelerating, the pipe sounds awesome!  Noise levels increase, though not greatly, over the stock pipe at around 4000 rpm.  I was expecting a high pitched sound, but instead it's a deeper sound (i.e. more bass, so to speak).  I rode for a while in 4th gear on the highway just to enjoy the sound.  I'm now pleased that it's quiet at idle because I was concerned about waking the neighbors early in the morning.  Fit and finish appear to be outstanding, which I guess is to be expected from Yoshimura.  Once the wx warms up here in CT and I get to ride the bike again, I'll post more of my opinions.

Yoshimura always has good stuff. I have a Yoshimura on my GS750EF and it works great. I bought a Muzzy for my 2005 Bandit 1200, not too many guys have a muzzy on their Bandit 1200's but the one guy I did find has the same one as me and he loves it. From his description it may be a little loud for me I guess I'll find out. I like that your Yosh is kind of quiet untill you're really on the throttle attracts less cops that way. Not that we go over any legal speed limits of course!
2005 Bandit 1200, Modified Holeshot Stage 1 with 17.5 pilots 2.75 turns out, and 110 mains 5 shims. Muzzy Slip on w/mid-pipe, stock filter. 1.5" hole in the airbox lid.

I don't believe I've ever heard a Muzzy pipe before.  Let me know how you like it.  Are you re-jetting also?  As for speed limits, it's only illegal if you get caught.....right?

I have has a TRS on my Bandit for a couple of years now, and I can tell you they get louder with age. I have been very happy with mine. I have the TRS Race version, and my friends tell me it sounds like a formula 1 car when I spool it up.

I have an RS3 Race only cut down 6 inches.  Very deep, but not obnoxious below 3K rpm.  Opened up, she rips with authority.  But still a couple notches below an open pipe v-twin.

There are TWO Yoshimura baffles, the "zyclone" and the "race".

Which one did you get?

Zyclone is no longer made! They have a cone you can add to the RS3 to make it one if you can get it apart!    WHY IS THE QUOTE EASY BUTTON NOT WORKING???? :duh:

I've got an RS3 on my SV650 and it is NOT quieter than stock.  It is an awesome pipe with great fit and finish too.  I really like it.

The zyclone will sound great the older it gets, where as the race core gets kinda raspy when its got no packing. The cone they sell now to quiet it just fits in the end.

NONE of the aftermarket cans, even the quietest ones, will be as quiet as stock. The Zyclones, & Holeshot Street & Touring cans are among the quietest, if not the quietest, aftermarket cans, but are definately louder than stock.

I've heard the Yosh pipes for the SV's are a lot louder than their Bandit pipes.

I can confirm that!!!  Mine is louder than my Holeshot 17" comp on the bandit at idle and in the midrange.  WFO....?  its hard to tell because both of them are loud.  My fried has a RS3 on a bandit and it was much quieter than my pipes.

I LOVE them both!  Loud is good (to me).  D&D's are too loud (high pitch).
