Fast moving hogs....
« on: April 14, 2005, 06:58:19 PM »
I was driving back from FL, on us 441, just north of the border, a few miles into GA, when I noticed about 15 wild pigs on the side of the road.

I braked, turned around, and got my camera ready.
As I pulled up slowly, they scampered into the brush.
I pulled off, and watched a while.   After I was 150 feet away, they'd come back out, and resume drinking from the mud puddle.
If a tractor trailer went by at 70 mph, they didn't flinch.    IF I snuck up at 5 mph....they hauled ass!

I wasted 20 minutes before I got this, bad, picture, of a few of them!

And you thought I wasn't interested in HOGS!

South GA is full of feral pigs.  They're smart...and some grow up to be hogzilla.

I thought you guys got paid by the mile, Pete.

And here I was beliveing that you are the BBQ man.  One of those girls would have been mighty tasty cooked up over a hickory fire at Willville......but then I do know that it is all kinds of illegal to hunt from a public road.......however; if you had been in TN and could have managed to get one with your truck....believe it or not, it is ok to harvest roadkill in TN....OUR HEATHCARE SYSTEM IS FALLING APART AND OUR LEGISLATORS MADE LEGAL ROADKILL HARVEST....CAPS INTENDED...AAARRRGGGH...

CAMERA!?!?
You need a .357 or .44mag!

I've been meaning to go hog hunting... with a pistol.

Wild hogs are smart and have a great sense of smell, but they are blind and def so it's fairly easy to stalk them to within pistol range, as long as you stay down wind.

Incase you run into Hogzilla, you may want the new Smith 500 Magnum

Naw, they weren't phased by the big trucks roaring by.
  I'd use a PETERBILT!!!!!!!!

(Puree them swine on the spot!) :duh:

I do have a short barreled, ported, lever action .44 Magnum that would work, also....

No fair....you wouldn't be able to hear them squeal.....once!

for the $10 it would cost me for a .50 cal round, (and to end up with a headless hog,) I could   buy a lot of poke chops, and just shoot the neighbors dog in the butt with a BB gun for thrills......:duh:

The last time that I was in SC people yelled at me, made me crawl in the sand, fired rounds over my head and run until I could run no more....and that was the first day....eight weeks later I got to go home for a few days before I went on to OK where they yelled at me, made me crawl through sand and let me fire howitzers...I've never been to Aintry. thank goodness...I have heard that Ned Beatty gets angry if anyone mentions that scene to him.....to bad, he made big bucks for it.... :boohoo: hijacked your thread, sorry...

Nothing quite like the muzzle blast of a 50 caliber rifle.  Thank goodness the guns weigh about 40 lbs.

Tracers are pretty cool to shoot, but they tend to set the weeds on fire.  Maybe tracer round would create an instant BBQ if fired into a hog. :beers:

But I think my scoped, Magna Ported T/C in .41 mag would do the trick too.  FMJ or soft points on a hog?

I take it that's not your concealed carry gun, is it Lynn?

:rant2: I recently passed up a Super Redhawk in .44 magnum for cheap, dammit.  I's still kicking myself over that one.
