I was driving back from FL, on us 441, just north of the border, a few miles into GA, when I noticed about 15 wild pigs on the side of the road.
I braked, turned around, and got my camera ready.
As I pulled up slowly, they scampered into the brush.
I pulled off, and watched a while. After I was 150 feet away, they'd come back out, and resume drinking from the mud puddle.
If a tractor trailer went by at 70 mph, they didn't flinch. IF I snuck up at 5 mph....they hauled ass!
I wasted 20 minutes before I got this, bad, picture, of a few of them!
And you thought I wasn't interested in HOGS!
-
It's Pete's harem!
-
South GA is full of feral pigs. They're smart...and some grow up to be hogzilla.
I thought you guys got paid by the mile, Pete.
-
Paid? I was in my pickup. I was suppporting Arab terrorists.... :duh:
-
And here I was beliveing that you are the BBQ man. One of those girls would have been mighty tasty cooked up over a hickory fire at Willville......but then I do know that it is all kinds of illegal to hunt from a public road.......however; if you had been in TN and could have managed to get one with your truck....believe it or not, it is ok to harvest roadkill in TN....OUR HEATHCARE SYSTEM IS FALLING APART AND OUR LEGISLATORS MADE LEGAL ROADKILL HARVEST....CAPS INTENDED...AAARRRGGGH...
-
I braked, turned around, and got my camera ready.
CAMERA!?!?
You need a .357 or .44mag!
I've been meaning to go hog hunting... with a pistol.
Wild hogs are smart and have a great sense of smell, but they are blind and def so it's fairly easy to stalk them to within pistol range, as long as you stay down wind.
Incase you run into Hogzilla, you may want the new Smith 500 Magnum
(http://www.e-zbrane.sk/jpg/saw500.jpg)(http://www.gamecalls.net/albums/misc_photos/hogzilla.jpg)
-
I have a scoped Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull that will do the trick for ya Pete...tasty.....
-
Naw, they weren't phased by the big trucks roaring by.
I'd use a PETERBILT!!!!!!!!
(Puree them swine on the spot!) :duh:
I do have a short barreled, ported, lever action .44 Magnum that would work, also....
-
And work very well too! :beers:
-
Or you could use this from a great distance..
That would be the rifle, not me....
-
No fair....you wouldn't be able to hear them squeal.....once!
for the $10 it would cost me for a .50 cal round, (and to end up with a headless hog,) I could buy a lot of poke chops, and just shoot the neighbors dog in the butt with a BB gun for thrills......:duh:
-
....you wouldn't be able to hear them squeal...
Squeal like a pig.....you live in GA......I'm pretty sure that I have seen a movie about this......I'm becoming afraid to go near the water... :stickpoke: .....
-
I actually live in SC, and don't know the way to Aintry......... :monkeymoon:
-
The last time that I was in SC people yelled at me, made me crawl in the sand, fired rounds over my head and run until I could run no more....and that was the first day....eight weeks later I got to go home for a few days before I went on to OK where they yelled at me, made me crawl through sand and let me fire howitzers...I've never been to Aintry. thank goodness...I have heard that Ned Beatty gets angry if anyone mentions that scene to him.....to bad, he made big bucks for it.... :boohoo: hijacked your thread, sorry...
-
Nothing quite like the muzzle blast of a 50 caliber rifle. Thank goodness the guns weigh about 40 lbs.
Tracers are pretty cool to shoot, but they tend to set the weeds on fire. Maybe tracer round would create an instant BBQ if fired into a hog. :beers:
But I think my scoped, Magna Ported T/C in .41 mag would do the trick too. FMJ or soft points on a hog?
Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull
I take it that's not your concealed carry gun, is it Lynn?
:rant2: I recently passed up a Super Redhawk in .44 magnum for cheap, dammit. I's still kicking myself over that one.
-
I need a snubby .38 special or .357 as a new CCW
My P99 .40 is just too damn big. Not a problem in the colder months, but you can't do much with in when you're wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
-
Manny,
check out some of the titanium framed Tauruses or S and W revolvers.
As long as they don't feel totally strange in your hands....they're very light.

I guess the charter Arms undercover is long gone.
I have a Charter 2000 .44 SPL, stainless, 5 round, but it's a little big for ultra concealed.
There ought to be a tiny .40 S and W out there.
-
A little large for everyday Matt  For the hogs I would use 300gr JSP.....Manny, I believe that we all go through that downsizing process, especially in summer, I've already passed .38, passed it on to the wife actually, and carry a Beretta Tomcat with Hydrashoks as a pocket gun or with a clipon, inside the waistband, ....I hope that we can find a good BBQ spot along The Blue Ridge..... :beers:
Pete! carrying a .44 on your person! Only you and Clint could pull that off... :congrats:
-
Kel-Tech .380. It's microscopic for CCW.
-
I have a Kel-Tech .380, the two toned green and black...hits like a big dog....fits nicely in a pocket of my tankbag.....kind of like a Bandit, a lot of bang for the buck and It's really a better buy than the Beretta.....I'm cleaning guns this morning...nothing like a little Breakfree CLP on your eggs...I just accquired two new Springfield V-16 longslides that I need to zero and it's RAINING AGAIN...thank goodness for indoor ranges...
edited to add: did you notice that someone posted the url from hell and caused this thread to be very wide? Must have been a big guy :stickpoke:

maybe not all gone.....
-
Lynn, I guess they reformed for a while in 2000. I picked up a new Charter 2000 Bulldog in .44 Special for pocket change.
A little crude, all CNC milled, but the gaping hole in the end of the barrel is enough to scare away most people!
It shoots OK, and easy, with factory .44 SPL stuff. I was reloading some for it, since it was not always easy to find factory ammo.
Somehow....that ended up with me buying the Marlin 1894P .44 mag carbine.....ported barrel. Digests my hand loads...and the 'good' stuff, also!
Anybody kicking in my door at night has a fighting chance to reconsider.
I'll be busy trying to decide among a .357, .40 SW, .44 SPL, .40 SWCarbine, .45 ACP, and the .44 Mag carbine.
(Not to mention the .22's!)
-
Guess this is becoming a firearms thread.
The Bersa Thunder .380 is a NICE gun too, just not as compact as the Kel- Tec. Double action first pull, then single action! Inexpensive too. Sweet!
I have the second gen. Kel-Tec .380 and it shoots surprisingly well for a little bug gun. Web of my hand is sore the day after I shoot 50 rounds through it though. :boohoo:
I won't have to waste time deciding, Pete. Kimber in .45 ACP with CorBon JHP +P for the house guest. :bigok:
Manny, the S&W Titanium .38spl is just what you need.
-
Charter seems to be still in business.
Here's the Undercover. Under $300 for a stainless compact .38.
Of course, since it's from CONNECTICUT, the quality is suspect!
http://www.charterfirearms.com/undercover.php
(Manny used to live in CT....) :monkeymoon:
I'm partial to revolvers, since they were the first handguns I shot extensively.
consider this thread thoroughly hijacked!
-
Pete,
I'm actually a big fan of the Taurus. Particularly the 617 series. They have some great features.
Compact 2" snubby in .357 with spurless hammer and 7 rounds!
MSRP is $400
-
MSRP is $400
You should be able to pick one up for $350 then. I take it that's the blued price.
-
Ahh, Kimbers...I have a Tactical Custom ll and a 25th Anniversary Edition Gold Match...the Gold Match I've never fired but I practice with the Tactical often, it just feels good in my hand.. guess what? I'm a .45 guy....
that's 10 4 on the hijack.....
-
Manny, I like the Tracker model, in Ti!
Check out this Charter for a 12 oz .38, though....
http://www.charterfirearms.com/offduty.php
-
I'm a 1911 in .45 guy myself. My Kimber is a ProCarry HD II, all stainless.
I'm wantin' a full-size 1911 too.
-
couple of Charter Off Duty revolvers on Gunbroker now....decent price too....
-

I'm wantin' a full-size 1911 too.
To play on words, whats trippin' your trigger the most? Personally, I would be hard pressed to pick just one...so many nice 1911s to choose from...Kimber is hard to beat, value to dollar....you would have to pay almost twice as much for a Wilson Combat to get what comes as standard on a Kimber....
-
It is hard to beat a Kimber out of the box. I'd like (don't need) a full size with a bushing for my main shooting gun (tho I should probably start handloading if I do). Maybe something good for IDPA shoots.
-
Racegun...mmmmnnnnn...I'm way past competing but I may have to have a racegun just to...have...When I was in the military I made the 101st Airborne Division Pistol Team....good duty for a young trooper...that's when I learned about the difference in an arms room gun and the fully accurized rendition....also, I learned about the necessity to practice...I never stopped practicing...riding a bike to the range is very good for the soul...

here is a nice group at the Springfield site....

$438 for stainless
(http://www.taurususa.com/imagesMain/H_617CHSS2.jpg)
Or this little badass in Titanium for $600
(http://www.taurususa.com/imagesMain/H_617TB2C.jpg)
-
:stop: We have to :stop: this before I go buy another gun....especially that little badass titanium model (thank you Manny)....your fault Pete, you and your HDs on the side of the road...dang, you see a pig and I buy another gun.....come on Blue Ridge.....
-
I really have been looking at different models in .17......don't have a .17...or .32 mag.......or a Desert Eagle .50, a black one, not the pimp model.....a Bushmaster Bullpup would be nice chambered in .45ACP.....Matt, have you ever heard the term "enabler"... :beers: :stop: block him out Pete...please...
-
I think it's a co-dependence thing, Lynn.
I was looking on gun auctions site for another Kimber .45. :stop:
Damn, I wish I could make the B.O.S.S. :boohoo: :crybaby:
-
Co-dependence...yes..I know that....Maybe we could round up a few more riders and meet in.....Crossville, maybe....got to be some good roads around there.....sometime after B.O.S.S. if you like  ....I usually don't have a schedule unless wifey's little hobby business has use of me...you know, pick this up and carry it there kind of stuff.....we haven't really talked much about long guns yet... :blahblah: maybe "Bikeless Manny" can beg, borrow or steal a bike and we could hook up down around Chattanooga or the North Georgia mountains....getting closer to you Pete..maybe create a mini-regional ride for the folks that can't make The Blue Ridge....just a stray thought...
-
I actually have access to a 2003 B12S with only like 2k miles on it. A buddy bought it when I had mind and now it just sits in his garage. I just don't have time.
-
I want you all to know that I passed by three gun stores on my way to another piece of business today....three...
-
One gun store at a time, Lynn. That's the way you do it.
I only went in one gun store. Checked out a couple Kimber models, but resisted. Only because I knew that I'd have a hard time living out of my truck with my guns when my wife kicked me out.
-
I bought a small cargo trailer last year....wife says that she is going to paint "doghouse" on the side and send my butt out to it when I "act up" as she calls it...I went ahead and put in a seat out of a van, my sleeping bag and some MREs......I'm thinking of an addition on to the garage....nicer quarters....
-
...as a FAST hog. Everybody knows they are fat, ugly, slow, leak oil and have lots of chrome.

:duh: The subject is hogs, not Hawgs.
