Are there any riders from in or around MD? I was coming home from work tonight and thought I saw one but I passed by to quick. I am pretty sure it was a brand new Bandit and I was wondering how many other riders were from the MD area.
-
Prolly not gonna be that meny guys in MD that post in the South East section. :stickpoke:
-
Why not, MD is South of the Mason Dixon line, making us a Southern State?
-
hahaha! Seriously....TN, AR, SC, even NC I would consider the southeast. Anything north of that, not so much. Definately not anything north of DC. :stickpoke:
Of course- I've lived in the deep south all my life- maybe we have a different perspective.
-
The fun thing is: The forum is titled SOUTHEAST U.S. Any thing SOUTH of the MASON DIXON LINE. Oh, I a sure you MR. Swampfox is a good old southern boy. If you don`t believe me ask his dogs Mason and Dixie. :bigok:
-
Yeah - Maybe we need a Mid-Atlantic forum!
Fox - I live in PA (Per the forum definition, Northeast) but I work in suburban B'more (Hunt Valley/Cockeysville). I ride to work whenever I can. No Bandit, though!
-
I didn't mean to sound rude about it....but do people north of DC consider themselve Southern? Truly an educational question on my part.
I live in the South AL/ FL Panhandle area....never been north of Memphis due to one memphis winter ruined me from snow.
I wasn't trying to run anyone out of the southeast section- just really didn't expect that any MD area people would be looking in here.
-
To be honest, yes there are quite a few of us North of DC yet South of the Mason-Dixon Line that consider ourselves Southerners. I can't speak for those north of the line or even some of those south of the line, but I do consider myself a Southern Boy at heart. And technically, by the definition put forth by the description of this board, I am a Southerner.
And if there are disputes about MD being a southern state, one of my college professors, a Virginian, as well as further research will tell you that the only reason that MD remained in the Union during the Civil War was because President Lincoln had the MD Legislature arrested to prevent them from voting for secession. About 80% of MD's population were Southern sympathisers.

Wow- that's really cool info- all new info to me. I didn't think MD was a confederate state- but I didn't know about the history of it. good stuff man.
I also never actually knew where the mason-dixon line was either til this topic came up. I didn't care about this kind of stuff back when I was in school.lol

Living here on the "edge", near so many battlefields from several wars fought here in the U.S., I had an interest in it. In fact, I graduated from college with a BA in History, focusing on US History from 1607 to 1865. I in no way claim to know every thing there is to know, but I did learn quite a bit.
Anyway, I hope that more MD people read this and respond. Since I am a new rider I hope that more people from the area can suggest some good roads to ride or even different routes I can take back and forth to work.

i'm from western md. many people think of us as yankees ,,but the first shots of the civil war were fired in baltimore. seems that back in the day lincoln called up the federal troops from new york to washington dc.the rail lines from new york to balt. were on one side of town and the rails from balt. to dc on the other side as the union troops marched through balt. they were pelted with rocks from southern sympathizers.and fire upon them .[before ft.sumterwas taken.by the way i gotta 07 bandit an dawgs too

Cool man- welcome to Bandit Alley!
-
I live in Frederick...Though the way I see it, MD is just southern enough, but it's certainly not NC or TN...
-
I'm in Frederick, MD as well. Have owned several bikes, but have always come back to the Bandit. Currently have a 1200 and a 1250. Always up for a good ride - even in the winter.
