Neal Boortz may buy motorcycle
« on: November 01, 2005, 11:58:59 AM »
Some of you may listen to Neal Boortz, a talk show host out of Atlanta, and syndicated nationwide.
He's a pompous, conservative, type, but funny as hell.
A few weeks ago, he mentioned he was looking at a BMW LT.
This morning he mentioned he has private motorcycle instruction scheduled for this weekend.
(Not sure if he bought the bike, or not....)

I think he'd mentioned he rode some small bike in his 'youth' in the early 60's.

Stay tuned, we may witness the evolution or demise of a retread!

He has enough $$ he can park an LT in the garage, and roll it out to ride to Starbucks on the weekends....with a Phantom of the Opera CD annoying everyone else in traffic.
("Phantom' makes Neal orgasmic.   He'd probably faint if Clay Aiken had the lead.....)  OK, Neal is Hetero, but his taste in music is pretty Metrosexual....
At one point, a couple of years ago, Royal, his sidekick, was impressed with the stunters he saw doing wheelies on 285.   I thought we'd see him on a bike before Neal, who I think has spouted some'anti-bike' stuff in the past.

  We'll see.  COuld be interesting.....

Neil's "youth" was in the '60s?  Must be the 1860's!  I think he was already on the air when we moved to Atlanta in 1976.  This past weekend on my way up to Nashville for a Preds game (see logo at left), I ran across his braying voice on the radio dial, mused at how long he's been around, and then quickly tuned to something less annoying.

He is funny.  I think he's in his mid 60's.   He's almost as pompous as Limbaugh, who I can't tolerate, but unlike Limbaugh, he had vital careers outside of radio, and has an actual education, even though some of it's from Texas A and M.
I think he started part time on Atlanta radio when he was in Law School, like in the late 60's.
I've been listening to him off and on for 10 years or so.
They used to run replays at 3 am on WSB before he was syndicated, nationwide.  You could hear him braying out to the rockies in the middle of the night!

WHat turns me off about these kind of radio personalities is that they portray themselves as the ultimate experts, and that dissenting opinions are belittled.  I would not spend time with them in real life, and I won't let them ride in my car!

No, he's not as bad as that.  I have heard him admit he's wrong.
You need to remember, it's just entertainment....
I used to listen to a lot of talk radio, and my leanings are pretty conservative.   You still need to filter out a lot of crap!

Boortz will get to the point where he'll agree to disagree, politely.

Limbaugh is the king of screeners.  If you stray off script, you're gone...
I haven't listened to him in years....it was too much of an ass kissing party.

Boortz did  rant about the Harley guys and loud pipes screwing it up for all riders, today...... :beers:

Eh.  I used to find Stern amusing...back in the early-mid 90s.  As it is, the morning radio shows seem to have forgotten how to spin a record, all they want to do is talk, but I don't want to listen, even if I do agree with them.  All I do it punch the buttons up and down the dial until I find someone playing music.  Since I generally do NOT agree with the "righty whiteys" like Limbaugh*, there's no use in punishing myself.

*No surprise to those of you who've read my posts.

Well, I drove a tractor trailer for 20 years, with the radio on probably 12 hours a day.  I got to the point I CAN'T listen to any commercial music radio stations.   Just not interested.  My tastes in music are diverse, but not mainstream.
I rarely listen to commercial broadcast music stations.  They just feed crap to the masses, and most of you will be offended, but you don't know any different.
That kind of narrows it down to talk, or news, since I don't see any sense in drooling over sports.

Hark, what's that I hear?  Another death rattle from Air America? :monkeymoon:

Speaking of Boortz, he donated money to Air America, hoping they'd stay on the air.   He knows if they fail, they'll blame it on the 'right wing talk show people', and not on the fact that they are so inane, not even members of the choir are listening......

We have an Air America affiliate here, but we can't get radio signals at the huge Federal facility where I work.  But I am an inveterate NPR listener/supporter.

I've listened to Neal a bit this week, and he's been railing against loud pipes, squids who can't stay in one lane, and also gushing about the  magic of countersteering.

He also expressed amazement at somebody who called in a expressed the joys of doing 120 mph on a deserted road.

He just mentioned 'crotch rockets'.............
