Hi im new to this site, i have a Bandit 400vc

i think its a Varible valve type, its a grey import. the problem im having is sometimes the power band is there and some times it rides like its restricted. when i first had it, it pulled really hard at 7 and 10 rpm now it just chugs along really slowly?!

Any help would be nice.. maybe change the engine?? or is it the carbs?? ive changed the plugs already..

i would start with the carbs mate, mine had more or less the same symptoms . a full clean of the carbs brought her back to life......

We've got the same kind of bike. A vvc, mine is red. The very first time I acquired my bike, it runs smoothly but then after a few hundred kilometers, i noticed that the bike seems to loose some horsepower so i brought it to my mechanic. He said that my carbs needs to be synchronized and my air filter replaced. Unfortunately there's only one motorcycle shop in my place who sells that kind of air filter and it really cost high and have to order it first and i have to wait for it for a month. So my mechanic just soaked my old air filter in gasoline. I was amazed how dirty it was! After soaking for about an hour, he let it dry using an air compressor. Then after all the jobs were done, i road tested my bike and was pleased with the performance. I then decided to replace my sparkplugs with new ones and that makes my bike perform even better!
