Title: Aftermarket Slip-on exhaust with stock header?
Post by: TheKillerB on October 05, 2005, 02:18:33 PM
Has anyone cut the can from their stock exaust and put an aftermarket slip-on onto it?  If so, what brand exhaust did you use and what bike was it intended for?

I have stock headers, a custom-bent midpipe and an M4 TI can.  Had a D&D on the same setup before.  I'm not sure what bike they were intended for but anything with the right siz opening (2 inch, right?) and a pinch-type clamp would work.  What's wrong with the Yoshi?

The yosh pipes have rusting issue.  I had them Jet Hot coated a few years ago but they are rusting from under the coating and showing through.  I got ahold of a Euro stainless steel stock pipe and am researching my options.

I bought my M4 from Winslo.  Haven't seen him on here in a while.  Maybe try PMing him what it is.  IIRC, he works at a bike shop.  It's really nice.

did you contact jet hot and see what they say about the rusting, sounds like a prep problem or a coating failure

It's been a while, but their warranty for brand new pipes and used pipes is different.  I think used pipes only have a 1 year or something.  My pipes were past the warranty date.

I think those were a little expensive for my blood, but that definitely would be sweet.

I have a Muzzy Carbon Fiber can on my B4.  Suzuki made the header pipe 50.8mm (2 inches), which is what most aftermarket cans are.  Mine was intended for a '99 ZX-9 Kawi.  Sounds great, not too loud, not too quiet, just right.  See the pics at http://www.bikepics.com/members/racerruss/93bandit400/.  Be sure and get the clamp if you buy one, it will be tough to make one that will look good.

Wow, that's a great looking Muzzy...where'd you get it (new I'm guessing) and how much was it?  That'd look great on my FZR400 (all black).

It came from Star Cycle.  I called them up, told the guy what I was doing and asked if they had a new slip on with a 2" straight inlet and a bracket.  He checked and said he did and let me have it new for $175 + shipping.  It looks like they sell slip-ons through and Ebay store as well, but nothing is listed that cheap right now.  Their website is at http://www.starcycle.com/exhausts.html.

Good luck.
