Title: B4 Tank Swap
Post by: treybrad on July 29, 2005, 02:00:25 PM
I'm looking to buy a '91 B4 but the tank will either need some major love or just be replaced. There's a pretty big dent in the side of it. I searched around but couldn't find any info (which is probably a bad thing..) on other tanks that'll fit. Just from looking, it doesn't look like the B6 tank fits, but maybe the B250? I'm hesitant to buy the bike b/c parts are so scarce... and I know I need at least a tank. Any pointers appreciated.

I would not buy a bandit 400 with a bad tank unless I am just looking to use the rest of the bike for parts. It will be nearly impossible to find a tank for the B4 with little damage at a reasonable price. I guess it's just one of those supply and demand things.

A couple of tanks recently sold on ebay. If its just a dent, you can have it filled and repainted. I had a nice dent where my balls met the tank. After filling the dent you can't even tell. How long will it last? I'm not sure, I might have to repaint every couple of years.

No 250 Bandits in the US, but a 1G B250 tank would fit if you're willing to buy a used part from overseas.

Bit of wood filler, paint and elbow grease would clean it up!

The only downside is you won't be able to get quite as much fuel in

I've just had to replace my tank, as a little tiny hole appeared (rusted) on the side, and had probably weeped for a while before it let go.

Anyway, I didn't have too much trouble finding another (black) one, but it did cost a bit, and since you guys would need extra shipping it would probably make the expense bigger than it's worth.

It cost me £130 which included shipping, and took 3 days, but that would work out at about $180, and that's before they slap and atleast an extra $25-$50 on for international shipping.

So if that's still within a sensible price range (surely not?!) then let me know and I'll give you the details of a couple of places in England.
