The oil filler cap states SAE 10W/40 as the correct grade so thats pretty much settled, however I would like to know what brand of lubricant other riders put in their engines
I would like to know
Oil Brand:
Viscosity:
Synthetic or Mineral:
How often you change it:
And total Km's on this oil you use.
I am trying to determine from user experience what is good to use.

Doesn't anyone here service there 250 Bandit, or is it common for no maintainence to be performed? I saw a fellow riding a 250 the same as mine the other day, had not been serviced since new and it had 13500k's on it.
Anyhow I am interested to hear from all on this subject

A thread like this is typically a can of worms and you'll hear as many different answers as people who post in one. As far as requirements, the 250 shouldn't be any different than any other Bandit and if you look around a little, you should be able to find some oil threads.

FWIW - here's the current oil thread in the 600/1200 section if you want some opinions. :beers:

I found this spot to purchase non genuine oil filters. The J512 filter is the correct one.

I've been using the Perf-Form filters a lot and really like them. :bigok:

G'day Raptorc
I live in victoria and i use castrol GPS Synthetic blend
10w/40,and i change it every 3000-4000 k's...my bike tells me when to change cause when i leave the oil in too long it starts to miss gear when i chage into top gear...

Thanks for that reply
I did end up deciding to go with Amsoil 10/40 MCF synthetic motorcycle engine oil. The bike performed better right away giving a solid 175km/h top speed, the downside is that its noisier on startup almost sounding rattly something it didn't do when I had some Castrol motorcycle engine oil in it (mineral based).
So I had no other option to thicken the oil a little that add a very small amount of STP (left over from another vehicle) to the Amsoil. This has solved the cold start noisiness and still allows for the good topend performance.
Will keep you posted on how this all goes.
