Title: Bandit 400 Fuel Petcock Alternative (again)
Post by: bdouvill on July 24, 2014, 06:55:46 AM
Hi,

I am thinking about replacing my B400 petcock. It seems that sometimes, the valve that is opening thanks to the depression is closing and the only way is to keep riding is to use the Prime position waiting for the valve to get back to its open position. This happened to me for the 2nd time this year just this week. Last time, it was on the highway and it was a little bit scary...

Anyway, a brand new petcock costs around 120 to 140 euros at my local Suzuki dealership. The thing is I am afraid that if I can get one, it will probably have been produced years ago and I believe I will face the depression problem some time in the future.

I read with great interest this post:
http://forums.banditalley.net/index.php?topic=13651.msg107041#msg107041

It gives the following references for a Pingel replacement petcock:
-6210 Valve
-1602c Adapter plate
If you choose to have reserve: 6211"

I got that in the process, I will loose the depression feature but I am ok with that.

The adapter plate is that one:
http://www.pingelonline.com/pc_product_detail.asp?key=D549CC711E9B4651AC133C54D693EA5D
It's a female Thread 3/8" NPT with 34mm bolt pattern

So I assume if I want to get the petcock from Pingel website:
http://www.pingelonline.com/pc_product_detail.asp?key=CF5B5880C941457EBBA469C065371A2A
it corresponds to the 6000 series with inlet size 3/8 NPT

My question is that one:
Can I get the version with inlet size 22mm with adapter nut that should go with this adapter plate:
http://www.pingelonline.com/pc_product_detail.asp?key=4934DC2D36B64C6DBDED076E8E24B677
which is Metric Male 22mm male with 34mm bolt pattern?

The adaptor looks a lot like the one used by Greg for his B400 fuel injection project, see here:
http://forums.banditalley.net/index.php?topic=13747.msg107716#msg107716

Bonus question: is any of the two options better? I guess it's basically the same in the end.

Then I got to look for the right reference(s) on Amazon. It did not find Pingel petcock to be easily available from where I live.

Many thanks in advance for your help.
Regards.

I also believe that the stock petcock from a drz400 (I think any of the drz line actually) fits and screws right on. I've used gaskets from them with my stock petcock.

Might be cheaper.

Wow with dimensions listed! Thanks from me for that Sean. I was thinking of getting a new petcock for my gsf250 so this may help :)

Can anyone confirm that a '89-'95 GS 500 petcock will fit?

Finally, I bought a new petcock from Suzuki, the DR400 model being almost as expensive as the B400 one. I wa afraid in the 1st place that I came from old stocks but it seems mine as been manufactured on 28th May 2014 which I am happy with.

Just mounted it, I hope it will solve the valve to close unexpectedly (especially when I am on the highway). I let you know.

I just had to order a Petcock too, mine was leaking fuel past the diaphragm into the cylinder. I also went with the b400 one for the same reasons. Now just waiting for it to show up.
