Author Topic: Pingle replacement petcock? (Read 5109 times)

Hey everyone,

Looks like Dita wants a new petcock, and who am I to say no? In the interests of not having to wait 6 weeks for a new one from Suzuki (or pay $75 + $20 for shipping.), I have read that some people here have replaced with aftermarket petcocks.

So,.. anyone have a part number or a model for me? pingle or otherwise?

I've taken a peek at Pingle's site, but didn't see a listing for a B4. I will drop them an email shortly here too.

gsxr600-750-1100 type measure the bolt holes call and tell them what you want nice people!

I just installed one on my bike, it was a power-flo hex valve. I had clearance problems with the #1 carb and the little knob on the valve. I had to cut that off to get the tank to sit properly and be able to switch the valve. Other than that it installs easily you will have to take a file to the gas tank, they explain this in the directions, you will also end up needing bigger fuel line, clamps, and inline filter if you use one.

file the tank? cut the new fuel valve? hmmm,... is the change worth it then? Is the valve rebuildable if it fails?

Its not as bad as it sounds. They send you an adapter plate with the proper spacing for the mounting bolts, you bolt that to the tank, and mark the outline of the center hole(the one the petcock screws into) pull the adapter off and file out the area thats been marked, you have to do this to get the fuel valve to fit properly and only takes about five minutes. As far as cutting it all you are doin is cutting off the knob that is used as the handle for the valve. It doesnt look bad and you can barely see it on the bike. I believe its worth it, you would know longer have a vacuum actuated valve( you have to plug the vacuum port on the #1 intake) so you know longer have to set it to prime if you run out of fuel.

I have always used a drill bit, chunks are easier to get out of the tank rather than filings.

So this valve is a manual valve that you turn off when you stop ( like a dirtbike)? I'm not sure I get why a non-vacuum system is better than a vacuum driven system. With the possible exception of the lack of a diaphram to fail.

I don't generally run out of fuel

, the only time that prime ever gets used on her is if the carbs need to be filled in the spring, or because they've been emptied for service. ( like they were last night.)

I just fill up every 200kms and never have to worry about a lack of fuel.

Would you believe that her fuel valve stopped leaking all of the sudden? (And she's running properly, so it didn't just stop leaking cos it's plugged or something.

)

lmao! So,.. the "4" in B4 isn't so much short for 400,... but more a reckoning of approximate mental age? This explains a lot.

It might explain why she "wakes up" so grumpy every spring too.
