Title: Bandit got wrecked - time to part it out
Post by: Krautwagen on August 23, 2006, 11:55:28 AM
(http://www.mnaudi.com/mymnaudi/images/930/P1010077med.jpg)

Chick decide to turn left in front of me.  Luckily i was only doing about 25 on impact.  Still was enough to total the bike.

So I think I'm going to use this to move on from the world of the little bandit - sorry guys :(  Thinking about a mint XS650 or other old UJM.

So, here's the bad:
-Fork inners
-F brake lever
-Right side pegs (both)
-Tank dented (nuts and knee)
-F fender
-One mounting tab on front of rear right plastic broken long ago - still good though
-Exhaust scratched but still good (shows the usual surface rust on header pipes)
-I think the cam chain tensioner started making noise (harmonic type grinding sound if revs are low and load is med/high - i.e. cruising in town in 6th @ 30/35 mph - quiet everywhere else though.

The good:
Yosh full system
-CDI rebuilt by Carmo <2 years ago
-Carb guts all new <2 years ago (needles, jets, springs, float assy's, slide diaphram's)
-New petcock
-New battery
-<1000 miles on the Metzler Sportec M1's (160/60 & 110/70)

So who wants what?  Let the offers begin  :thanks:

Edit - bike has 13,xxx miles on it

Dude, that's so sad. You're okay, I take it?

So, shark time.

How much for the mirrors and the left side little fairing bit with screw(between seat and tank, over the airbox)?  Also, I need the little black rubber thingy that covers the frame where the front end of the tank mates up to it. Mine's just a wad of duct tape at this point. I could also use the plate that covers the battery --holds the tank bolts and the seat release. The nuts where my tank bolts in are stripping real quick. Ooh, handle bar still good? someone put a striaght bar on mine and it just doesn't fit.  Total that up and let me know and I'll drink a beer to honor the passing of your little friend.

Also, you have the same pipe as me. Can you provide jetting details for that pipe?

thanks.

andrew, I'm running 95 mains, std float height, and IIRC, 1 notch lean from center on the needles (with brand new emulsion tubes).

Luckily I'm fine.   Just went over the bars and landed on her hood/windshield.

The right mirror has some scaring on it, but it functional.  Basically the socket (of the ball and socket) has a beveled edge now.

The handlebars are some CR bend MX bars.  They were $30 and I'd like to keep them to see how they'd feel on a old UJM :D  Stock bars are long gone.

So, for the mirrors, left airbox cover, front tank mounting rubber, and rear tank mounting plate - hows $75 shipped (US) sound?

If anyone needs anything either shoot me an offer or I can guess at a price.  Everything is negotiable.  I will disclose EVERYTHING I can about specific parts.  Pics available upon request.

Krautwagen, glad to hear you're okay. that's all that really matters, right?

Thanks for the jetting info. could come in handy here real soon.

Okay, I see the center stand on that thing too. throw it in and you've got a deal. (adjust for addn'l shipping cost).

pm me and we can work out the details.

Sorry to hear about the off. Bad drivers are universal.

I'm interested in the yosh can, if its still available.

Price, and shipping to New Zealand?

Damn, sorry to hear it. Left turners are my biggest fear. I'm glad you're mostly okay. It's sad to see the bike go. I guess the frame bent? If not you could pull off a front end swap and keep the bike!

Any idea what it would cost to ship the exhaust to California? 92867 zip.

Thanks

The headlight bezel also has some scaring, and the headlight itself has a tiny hole from a rock in it.  Let me know if you are still interested in them.
As for the tires - How about $125 shipped?  (very good tires - still have some fuzzy's on the sides)

Andrew - pm sent

Mike - it is easily fixable (forks, lever, peg, fender), but the cost of the fixit items coupled with the buyback from the insurance co would mean this is one expensive salvage bike - too much for me to justify being that I'm just not comfortable on the bike (6'4" - hip problems if I ride for more than a few hours).

NintyOne, El Dopa, the rest:
I have no idea about shipping the exhaust.  You can see it splits in the middle, so it'll be a fairly large box.  I'm in a small town and USPS won't ship anything that big, so a 30 minute drive to the UPS/Fedex depots would be neccessary.
I will have to box it up and get an estimate.

Post by: PitterB4 on August 24, 2006, 01:35:01 PM
Dave - sorry 'bout the bike.  That sucks.

FWIW - to ship the exhaust, you'd be surprised how small of a box you can use.  I shipped my V&H system via USPS with no problems.  I found a box that perfectly fit the headers, put them in it upside down and just wrapped the can and mid in bubble wrap in the open area under it.

Hey, looks like its going to be a pain for you, so don't worry about it. I was only really after the end can.

Commiserations again.

Glad you're OK, and I hope you can nail that left-turner! I hope you can get something out of her in court.

Anyway, I can use a left front footpeg bracket: (and the footpeg as well):

How's $45 sound for this? Let me know, as I can really use this. Thanks.

:banghead: crap crap crap crap crap  :banghead:

so, I tore into my bike today, following "The Plan of Attack" http://forums.banditalley.net/viewtopic.php?t=6743,

pull seat, tank, airbox and start looking things over. What do I see? #4 carb has been broken and repaired with j-b weld or something. Oh crap, no vacuum source for carb sync, thing is basically trashed. So, I move ahead with my valve adjust and thats pretty good. A couple are tight the rest are fine. Button it back up (including new custom-modded GM 195* thermo). I figure I'll go ahead and sync 1&2 and 2&3 and futz around with 4 abit and see what happens.  long story short is that #4 is dead, pull the plug wire, no change. aw crap. so...

how much for the carbs? yours are jetted for my pipe and its probably a good place to start. lemme know quick as I'm now riding on s**t. aw crap.

totally still interested in the light, the way the bike looks right now some scrapes and scuffs would fit right in.  i'm pretty much just trying to get it to the point of moving down the road.

How much for the tires without shipping? i get down to the cities fairly often and could pick them up, if that's cool.

RocketBoy and others:
I just realized my profile was a bit out of date - I'm actually in Winona, MN (went back to school).
I could drop the tires off at my parent's house (inver grove hts) in about a month.  I could do $100.

It's really very dirty, and any not-so obvious damage I've tried to highlight. I can get realy specific pics if you need them.

Did anyone make an offer on the rear plastics yet?

If not, how much are you wanting for them? (I've got no idea how much they'd be worth, so give me a price).

And, cost to ship to New Zealand?

Need some more stuff gone!

$225 takes the exhaust - shipped to the lower 48 for free.

I'm getting to the point of starting to think about getting rid of it - so make it worth my while to pull a part and go to the post office.  Basically going to accept all and any offers...

Some things of interest:
Tires
Rear wheel
Swingarm
Rear hugger
various motor and cooling system parts
Top triple w/igntion switch and seat lock - with matching key
Headlight parts (cracked lens & scuffed ring - but works great)
Rear seat
...more

I'm not sure how I can (legitimately) sell the frame if anyone wants it...

Well, I'm still after the exhaust can, but I know you want to sell the whole system as one item and not just the can.

I'm also possibly after the RH grip/throttle. Just the grip, not the whole unit.

Things worked out fairly well.  They only slightly lowballed me, but I was able to provide as many receipts as I could for any parts or work done, which made the check bigger and bigger.  I would have settled with the girl for $1900, but her mom was being a cow (offered $1100), so I let her insurance pay me :D  Eventually got $2022 out of them.  Bought the bike back for $370.  Already got that investment covered :D  Replaced the Bandit with a Honda Ruckus for scootin my way around town - still miss having a real bike though...

Glad it all worked out and hope you don't have any recurring pain which you should have gotten paid for also (pain & suffering). Be careful on the scooter as they are even harder to see then a motorcycle and don't forget to get in the habit of toggling the high-low beams at every intersection it can make a big difference.

Sounds like a blimmin' bargain.

I am in New Zealand, though, so factor that into your shipping.

Also, is that the price for both triples?

EDIT: remind me what year your bike is as well, please.

El Dopa, it's a 92.  I'll have to check on shipping to NZ.  Not sure - think $30 would cover shipping?

GooseMan, taillight is yours for $25 shipped (US) - let me know.

Here's some exhaust pics for those wondering.  It looks horrible in the pics.  The header definitely could use some sanding/blasting and a coat of paint, but the can is fine.  Includes the T-bolt clamp, the hanger clamp, and the locating pin for the 2 (keeps alignment of header and muffler).

Good headers, take the bike up to the rev limiter before you know it.... if that can is dumped, very restrictive

They look very similar to standard headers but now looking again i realise there arent any of those silly bolts just below the inlets.

Different length, no balance pipes, light steel, better collector, more ground clearance, sepperate mid pipe and a very nice sound with a different end can

How much do you want for the exhaust? How loud is it? Is it annoyingly loud, or nice loud?

Ideally looking for ~$200 shipped in the US.

Loud is subjective     It is loud, and I thought it was a bit too loud for a 400, but some folks thought it was fine.  Nowhere near straight pipe loud.  I did get cut off a few times and hit once (obviously), so it must not have been too loud... It did sound good though.

Hmmm.....I'm mainly interested because my stock pipe is rotting away...slowly :P

But I'm just concerned with the noise and the look....stupid cops here pull EVERYONE over for a "shiny" pipe like that....stock or not...theyre all "aftermarket and illegal" to them.

Did you still have the airbox? If so PM me a price shipped to Toronto Canada. Postal is M5T 2C2. No UPS they have an insane brokerage fee for importing into Canada. USPS is the best.

Mike, I think I do, but I'll have to check tomorrow AM.

I think I should be able to get it to you for $30 shipped (assuming ~$15 shipping).  Does that sound fair??

Are those mini indicators still around? What about that black piece of plastic that the licence plate & cdi where attached to? I can see your fender was elimiated, but mine is still stock so if I swap them and don't like it I can go back. Did you sell the front rotor with the wheel? If it's in okay shape I'd take it. Oh, and that black rubber flap that covers the battery. Give me a total price for whatever you've got in that list.

If you write "used motorcycle parts" and whatever value they are worth and send it with USPS I don't get taxed too bad. It's the UPS (brown) "brokeage fee" that kills shipping with them. To get something across the boarder its $30 to learn that you owe $2.93 in tax. For a total of $32.93. Ouch.

Yup, I still have the turn signals and battery rubber.  The CDI tray was shortened, but it's a nice clean setup.  The airbox would be just over $20 shipping.

Call it $55 for everything shipped?

edit- the front rotor is gone - but I will throw in my lighted license plate bolts for you for free (they were $25).

I do still have it, but there is no good way to ship it...  It will leak if tipped and cause some major problems and be useless to you.

I still have the headlight.  $40 shipped in the US.  I don't have any pics of it, but I can take one if necessary.  The damage isn't bad at all, just has one flat spot/scrape around the ring, the usual pitting, and a Hella H4 E-code lamp with a hole in it (still lightyears better than stock lighting).

Welp, even though I swore up and down I'd never buy another Suzuki...  I came home today with an '07 SV650

Last call for parts - just make it worth my while to go to the post office - the remnants of the B4 will be heading for the junkyard soon to make room in the garage...  By soon I mean a few weeks (which in reality will turn into a few months before I get around to it   )

Had to wait to change pipes before I took any decent pics :D

It's been a busy few weeks :p
'07 SV650n
-Chopped fender
-LP mini stalk signals all around
-LP swingarm spools
-ProGrip Superbike grips
-MSR MX bars
-Painted radiator guards and right rear peg bracket brace
-LeoVince EVO II aluminum slip on
-Deleted mini-screen
-Deleted a few stickers
-Deleted reflectors
-Metzler M-1's going on next week (picked up a nail in the rear)
-T-Rex stands should be here Friday
-Moto-Sliders frame sliders should be here Friday

The new pipe sounds great, louder than I thought it'd be, especially considering it has the euro-approved baffle still in it.  Fairly loud idle, really quiet on the highway.
