bars/clipons -- I need some insight

thanks stormi....now I've been looking thru the motovan catalog for new bars! They seem to have a good selection, and they do seem relatively inexpensive! Now i'll probably buy something else for my bike!  :annoy:

@Nate
I Brought the forks up just high enough to be flush with the edge of the clipons, you can see that in the picture. Probably is  about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. I wouldn't say the front end is twitchy. Feels much more solid than it did with the stockers on, IMO. The bars are set in place by two bolts to the triple, so as long as you have a minimal amount of fork in there, they're not going anywhere.

 erm,.. you're welcome.  Those catalogs are really dangerous!! There are tons of things you never knew existed in there, but suddenly have to have.   I try to stay out as much as possible.  :)

I recently purchased these:
http://www.suburban-machinery.com/sv650.htm
a set of these:
http://www.manicsalamander.com/bar_end_weight_hollow_mirror.htm
and these:
http://www.constructorsrg.com/mirrors/index.html

The bars and weights are being powder coated as we speak and I'm having a steel-braided brake line fabricated locally when it's finally together.

I hope the bars fit  :duh:   I'm pretty sure they will after reading this:
http://www.bluepoof.com/motorcycles/howto/bandit_suburban_bars/

Here's someone elses bike, a general idea of what they'll look like:

They fit.  I had them (type 1s) for a while.  Randy (TomacGTI or something like that) had them after me but I don't think he ever installed them.  I liked them but decided to go back to clipons.

Those went on the SV forums a year ago.

I do have a set of bars I got from England that I thought were shallower but are the same bend. Not sure I'm going to use them but they're better quality than most of the bikemaster clubmans.

Even though this thread died centuries ago, I do have a question regarding handle bars.
I've been attempting to change out my handle bars on my '91 B4, Though after removing every suspected bolt that holds the bars to the bridge, the bars still wont budge.

I've also removed the Speedometer, Tachometer, and the Headlight to ensure I'm not missing a bolt/clamp/nut.

I'll attempt to get some pictures up, Gentleman.

Any help is appreciated.

They are only held in by the 4 bolts you can see from the top of the clamps so must be held by corrosion of threadlock? Id give them a gentle tap with a rubber mallet.

Thanks for the advice, It hasnt fallen on def ears. I tried this, After a few nice taps a chrome piece falls from my bridge....They were bolt caps.

So to anyone who have solid cap bolts holding your handle bar bridge down, Take a slim flat head driver and just gently pry them up! Figured I'd share that with you guys. Surely I cant be the only one who was struggling with that.  :beers:

Yes, the procedure would be:
0. remove as much stuff off the bars as you can - Grips, controls, etc.  Some may not come off until the bars can be moved side to side to clear the cables and such.  Just leave those for now.
1. remove the chrome bolt caps from the 4 spots where the handlebars meet the clamps (a flathead screwdriver to pry them gently up works well here).
2. remove the 4 bolts that were revealed by step 1.
3. lift the top clamps up.  If the clamps hadn't moved at this stage, this is where the tap with the rubber mallet would have been used.
4. Remove bars

P.s. Personal Avatars do work, you have to upload them to somewhere on the net, photobucket, etc. then go into your profile and enter the location of the picture.  The only gotcha about it is that some of the services have a link that doesn't show a .jpg, .png,.bmp or whatever extension. You must be able to use one of those sorts of links, not the one that doesn't end with an image format sort of extension.
