Could someone with a similarly set up B4 : Yoshimura pipe , K&N filter and airbox with drilled top give me a start as to what I should try for jetting at sealevel ? The carbs that were on this bike were gummed up beyond repair and the replacement set came with what is supposed to be a K&N jet kit " with larger mains " to run with pods and a slipon . I'd just like to know a good place to start from :thanks:

Run what the carbs have in them and see what that does, if you know how to jet you will be able to figure it out from there. If you have never rejetted anything before and know very little about the inner workings of a CV carb the nightmare has just began.

I read an article from the early nineties from Cycle World or some other publication(it was some guys personal Bandit site with great links). They took a b4 and did a few modifications. They had a K&N, a slip on, and a jet kit(Dynojet?). They used the #96 main jets, 3rd position(groove) on the needle, and had the screw 3 turns out. If you google it, you might find it because there was a whole lot there I can't remember. Maybe the link is somewhere in here, try the 400 FAQ's.

Dynojet is the worst kit in the world to run, if you do a search you will find hundereds of posts on jetting on this BBS I have the same set up with 137.5 mains

Don't know how the Dynojet kits are for the B4, it's the B12 DJ kits that get bad press here. They do make some fine kits, just their B12 kit isn't one of them.

Whatever the mag said, it sure wasn't bad. I believe the article was along the lines of cheap and EASY upgrades to an inexpensive bike(I guess they never had a black box crap out, did they?). I would still go with a Factory Pro kit if I had a choice. But as for you Hawkrider, I would listen to Thief and use the 137.5(I don't know the part # equilavent) mains since he has the same setup. I would still leave the needle on the 3rd notch, and as for the adjustment screw, somewhere between 2 1/4-3 turns out. I don't know exactly where with those large ass jets. Welcome to the world of tuning. All I can say is change only one thing at a time so you can change it back when it hits the fan. And the best meter is the seat of your pants and your ears(unless the sound of detonation or clacking turns you on). Another Beer? Sure!

Thanks :beers: I have more experience than I'd like adjusting carbs , but just wanted to see what I should have and where before making changes . It's in the ballpark , I just need to clear up a bit of a stumble between 4-6k and get the idle sorted out and life should be good .
I rode her around a bit and going to an I4 400 from the 650/liter twins I usually ride has been something else . 6 k on the Mille and you're really moving , 6 k on the B4 and you're starting to roll forward a bit :grin:
