Title: Brass brush OK for chain?

I have some rust on my chain, mostly on the outside edge of the inner side of the chain. I was thinking of using a soft brass bristle brush on this with some WD-40. I've read the metal brushes can damage the O-rings, but I think it would be OK on the outside edge of the chain, no?

Just don't get medieval with it and you should be fine.
