Bike dies when steering turned left
« on: June 08, 2006, 02:51:24 PM »
I was making a slow left handed turn in a parking lot and the rpm's fluttered then died. Even when stationary and turning the bike left and holding it there, the bike will die. I gave it some throttle and it fluttered and died again.

Doesn't happen when holding the handlebars off to the right. Any suggestions?

Check the cable routing of your throttle cable.  (You can find the proper routing in the service manual)

Possibly the choke cable as well.  Routing of the throttle cable is the most common reason for the bars to be able to kill or rev the ever loving crap out of a bike.

I had the same problem and found the choke cable was just too tight.
Adjusting it so it had a bit more slack fixed the problem.

I've still got the problem of the revs increasing when turning the bars to the right though, but that' probably due to the throttle cable and bent handle bars... I haven't got around to fixing that yet.

Could also be electrical shorting in the wires from the switch.

I too had a similar problem.  When I turned right the rpm's climbed and it was the cable rounting.
