Howdy guys :)
Meet my pride and joy, it's a 1989 GSX-R 400RR SP2 :

I believe this shares the same engine and similar carbs to that of the Bandit 400 ?
I am having problems with my carbs, the diaphragms are too big and have stretched over the years and need replacement, also the carbs could do with a jet kit, and finally there are no after market air filters which will fit these carbs due to how close they are together, I've priced up the following :
Diaphragms - £80 (£20 each!)
Pilot Screws - £60 (£15 each!)
Jet Kit - £108.10 (Factory Pro Stage 3)
Air Filters - (no aftermark ones fit)
So rather than spend a great wedge of cash on these carbs and still have sub par results, can anyone tell me if there are any other options ?
I have read things about slabsides and seen posts on other sexy looking carbs, but I don't really understand what will fit my bike, is it a case of get individual ones and plumb 4 in together ?
If someone can explain to me please what my options are with aftermarket carbs I'd be very grateful.

flatslides from okshon that fit a xjr400 yamaha come up now and then for 300-500 new they are 1000

In my experience when I take out the diaphragms they tend to be a bit 'weak' and it's difficult to put them back. But when you let them dry for a while they become harder so you can put them back without any problems.

BTW - that's one of the absolute sexiest bikes I've seen. VERY nice!
+1... can't really help with the carbs...but if there are flatsides (as mentioned) that fit I'd be on those in a hurry.

My diaphragms have had it totally collapsed, looks like another 80 quid for a set (sigh).
Also got measurements of GSX-R 600 SRAD carbs and there 35mm long, defo to long to fit in me frame so an alternative engine is outta the question.
Looks like am gonna have to spend a small fortune on these carbs and hope it does the trick :thumb:

this blowing up is a bad problem especially if you dont drain your float bowls and just turn your carbs over on the bench and let them drain out, keep the gas away from the rubber.

I took the diaphragms out and somehow they have regained their shape, YAYYYY now i don't need to find 80 quid for 4 new ones :D
I checked length of GSX-R 600 carbs and there 35mm and will defo not fit in my frame, so am just gonna get a stage 3 factory pro jet kit and run it as it is :D
