CDI (YAY!)
« on: September 06, 2011, 04:22:49 PM »
Hey guys, new member here, I love the forum so far! Soo here's the deal: My awesome brother and his wife are graciously giving me their '93 Bandit 400P(aww yeah!).  The bike seems to have all the symptoms of a bad CDI, as we were able to rule out the coils, plugs, wires, etc. and the bike will not start or even push start.  My dad was able to replace the caps in the CDI, but we think either the board or possibly one of the chips are shot.  Without another to test with, I'm thinking I may need to find a replacement.  I checked the FAQ and found the carmo.nl repair site, as well as some listed on eBay.  I'm going to go the ebay route first, and I was wondering what you guys thought of this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Derestrict-CDI-SUZUKI-BANDIT400-GK75A-Ignitor-Ignition-/280692060931?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_100&hash=item415a8cf303

I was curious about this aswell. I've ordered parts from China and had good results.
Let us know about the "derestricted" abilities.

I'm guessing that is only relevant in places like Japan and parts of Europe where there are 'restricted' versions.

So the unit arrived within a week of purchasing, and when I was finally able to test on the bike it fired right up.  Good stuff.

Good to know, thanks for the report.  Have you had it on the road yet?

I'm hoping to get it on the road this weekend if time permits (crossing fingers).

Just be a little careful with the revs as some of the Chinese cdi's have NO rev limit built in and will rev until ya motor pops.
14000 rpm is max anything over and you will be out of the power and the mains WILL pick up!

So the CDI seems to be working fine, was able to start with no issue.  I'll definitely be careful not to overrev it as I don't want to find out if it raised the redline haha thanks.  Onto getting a new battery....

Did the model # on the CDI you purchased match the model # on your old CDI or was it slightly different?

I'm pretty sure it was the same if I remember right, but I'll check and let you know.
