Title: CDI Rebuild
Post by: chef on September 14, 2012, 09:17:21 AM
Am back after many years, busy with work & the baby who is now 3....
The Bandit sat garaged for a long time...new battery, some drain plugs missing from carbs now i think i got an CDI problem.
Several years ago there was some detailed posts about rebuilding the black box but after searching, none of the links look active.
Thanks for any help or direction.
Matt

Hi Matt,

Good to hear you still got the Bandit.

Regarding the cdi it is a simple case of replacing the 5 capacitors with new ones.

Hey Matt,... if you can post the links in this thread to the links that aren't working, I might be able to find them for you.  I know how to "tweak" the old links to get the new pages...

Here's a picture with a french description.

and a google translation:

A little advice for the repair of ignition boxes of 400 bandit type: 32900-10d00 (it also applies to other models

32900-46D00
32900-10D00
32900-10d10
32900-10D20
32900-10D30
32900-10D40
32900-10D60 - BB7701
32900-10D60 - BB7217

but not tested by me).

In fact you just open the case (quite boring because there is resin on the inside), and then just change the four large capacitor (this is the most common failure according to my research) see photo the:

Values are:

the two small 10μF 50V> 100V 10μF (I gave 50 because 100 were unavailable)
two big 47μF 35V> 63V 47μ

It is not very complicated but it is not to everyone either.

After this manipulation the bandit starts as it ever started.

Cost of operation 65 cents (4 capacitors purchased from nine www.lextronic.fr). When there are boxes that offer 150 euros to repair it quiet.
