Ive posted this on the 250 forum, its just my curiosity as to why can't someone make his or her own cdi derived from the original one. If anyone here who is electronically inclined, would it be possible to make our own igniter cause when our igniter goes kaput its such a PIA to acquire one and its such way too expensive here in the PI.

Saw the posts already, what Im asking is, is there a possibility that we could assembel our own cdi from scratch? With all the components found it the igniter, maybe someone here who has knowledge in electronics device an igniter from scratch which could work on our bike. By itemising each and every cpacitors resistors, chips etc ang making a brand new pvc and copying the detatrils of the original igniter and putting in the new components and thus if we can make it work we all have a brand new igniter. Anyways thanks for putting your inputs and Ride Safe!

Cheapest option is a Mega / Microsquirt kit for $250. You will have to buid it yourself though. Good thing is, you can put it on any other bike as well.

Well thanks for the inputs guys, here in the Philippines, we hace a high exchange rate and if we are talking about the sum in dollars multiply that by lets say 50 then you get 12,500 pesos which is quite high, shipping and handling are still not included. Here we can get reconditioned igniters ranging from 6,000 to 9,000 pesos. All Im thinking is if we can fabricate our own igniters. Im thinking if someone can make a list of every component and its values inside the 250/400 igniter, a schematic diagram and pictures accompanying that maybe we could fabricate one. And if we are talking about the said 250 dollar kit, if someone have actually acquired and made it, maybe if he could share its cop[onents ang diagrams etc for us to make our own DIY igniter. Saving us from high priced ones and avoiding the dreadfull igniter failure. Wouldnt that be nice?

There's a company over here in New Zealand who I've just started investigating, to see if they can help out with this.
They are advertising brand new igniter units for a range of bikes, including GSXR400 and GS400, for a range of years - mid '80's to mid '90's.

I've sent them an e-mail to see if they would be able to do something for a gsf400, as the motor is very similar to the GSXR400.
They've been advertising these in NZ for $225 all in, which seems pretty reasonable.
