get a new coil if it was the pick up you would have no spark

right, so i got the coil tested by a motorcycle mechanic, and its sparkin off his coil tester machine.
he says the next stop is to check the pickups or triggers which tell the coil when to fire.
where are they and how easy are they to get at?

the coil getting hot is not good he should have left the coil on the coil tester for like 15 minutes and it may have broke down then. just sticking them on and saying hey they spark is not good. If the pick up failed which is behind the little cover on the left of the bike you would have no spark to any coil.

ah yes . . . thanks once again for some good impartial advice. i reckon the mechnic would rather sell a 300 dollar cdi box than a 75 dollar coil pack, eh?
this little incident has made me look harder at issues surrounding the notorious bandit cdi, and i guess i'll buy a spare anyhow, my skills in electronics repair being right up there with my skills at zero-gravity piano tuning!
