Title: Clear tail light
Post by: Herr Tod on October 20, 2005, 04:20:20 PM
Does anyone know if there is a store that sells clear tail lights for the Bandit 400? Something like this...

This is because I am changing my headlight soon and I'll put on a different tail (fender) as well. The original blinkers won't look good with that so I want to buy clear ones, but those won't look good with a red tail light

I don't know of any that are sold, but I can tell you a trick learned on the 914 board.
PineSol
For the 914's hella turn-signal lenses, if you soak them in PineSol the color will come right off.  Might work for the B4 lense as well...if you have an extra tail light it might be worth a try.

:beers: I'll give it a try when I find an extra tail light... problem is I don't know what PineSol is exactly as we don't have it here in The Netherlands under that name. Is it a cleaner with a little bit of acid in it or something?

It's a household cleaner, with 15% Pine oil.
Not sure what the other stuff is, or which actually removes the tint!

Oh someone so has to try this!  I'd love a clear tail light!  IIRC, the lens is really cheap new from Suz, might be worth a try anyway.  Or with one of the parts bikes up for grabs....

I'm not sure if the plastic itself is red or if there is just a red coating on it. Coatings can be polished off... red plastic sucks  Otherwise I'd have to make a mould of the tail light and make my own out of thin plexyglas, then grind it so the light reflects differently and then repolish it... that would be a bugger.

Dole - images have to be served somewhere on the 'net and linked here.  You can't put them directly here from your computer.

Well if the Pine-sol doesn't work, the GS500F tail looks a lot like the B4s

Dole, you need the url for the image (if you're a PC user, right-click the pic and select properties) not the page it's on.  I fixed it for ya!

What kind of lens is that?  You can't just post a pic and not share!   :monkeymoon:

BTW - what rear shock are you running.  That ass is WAY up in the air!

It´s a complete led-light 164x65x110mm 12V/3,5W LED´s
called "Monster Style" 35.- Euros

I have a Mono Shock from Wilbers/Hagon but even other "bones"
from wendel-design.

You also can take the bones from the bandit 1200 but the ass will come up to much.

FWIW... I decided to try the Pine-Sol idea on a spare turn signal lens.

It doesn't work.  I think the plastic is colored and it's not just a coating.  Probably the same goes for the tail light.

But it is not exactly the same shape as the original one, is it?
