Does anyone know of aftermarket crankcase side covers for the bandit 400?
I broke the LH one a few months back and had a mate weld it up, he said he was difficult to weld and probably had a lot of magnesium in the alloy. The weld still leaks slightly, I think it might be porous.
I did a trackday yesterday and broke the RH cover as well and I'm not sure if it'll be weldable since the crack goes right to the edge (and it'd probably the same difficult to weld alloy).
If there's aftermarket tougher side covers available, it might be worth a try...
Just trying to figure out my options.
I'll be posting a vid from the trackday soon :bandit:

ive got a cracked right side cover...
i fixed it with epoxy, no need to weld
dunno about aftermarket side covers. how about crash protectors?

I saw some carbon guards for the 400 covers once i think don't remember and can't find where though now.
-
i also saw them once.
kevlar though not carbon

There are threads hear about the carbon and kevlar covers. THat really doesn't help if you have one that is already busted. The OEMs aren't that expensive as I remember.

Ebay. They turn up at intervals.
Erik, I've just remebered reading on here somewhere that a couple of other engines have the same sides (I think). RF400? Does that ring bells with anyone?

Try here (http://www.bikejohnny.com/cgi-bin/store/BKJstore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=SU02-TPT-0CS-20)
I've been thinking about getting these for some time now.
I've got sliders but these would be the icing on the cake.

to me those are on my wish list right behind the yosh fully adjustable triple clamp and both these items are towards the bottom of that list but rally nice stuff. I had some one weld some aluminum to my covers to beef them up

Erik, you seen this one?

Ahh what a sweet race bike :stickpoke:

Heh.
Already bought a non-runner B400 so I could get hold of a spare engine to rebuild. Long-term plan is to convert my 400V chassis for the track, with a fairly fruity 400+ engine bolted up to it.
Still......
Erik, wanna go halves on a race bike?

Nah, my bandit's good enough for trackdays.
Anyway, the bike is all fixed!
I was lucky and a local wrecker had a gsxr400 clutch cover. I basically bolted it on, straightened the brake pedal and that was it. :)
Maybe I'll still see if I can get the original cover welded so I have a spare. I think it might be difficult though as it's cracked right to the edge.

I didn't know the year.
The oil sight glass is slightly higher than the bandit's cover, how critical is the oil level in the bandit?
I've just topped it up so the oil level is slightly below the bottom level of the window, which is I think where the full level would have been on the original cover.
