OK, the Gsxr400 engine swap into my bandit 250 is finally going ahead, we've secured an entire gsxr400 as a donor bike.
Basically i'm looking for advice/tips on what to expect as its the most complicated bike wrenching job i've attempted so far.
basically i'm sick of looking at my 250 in this state

so we got this

and removed this

now we just have to get the 250 out of my kitchen and down to the garage, and the fun starts.
Also does anyone know if that swingarm will go onto the bandit without too much hassle?
sorry about the crappy cameraphone pics

Good Stuff. My bandit lives in the kitchen too! I thought I was the only one.
:beers:
Ask Jay about the swing arm. I think he said it was fairly simple.
-
I take it that you aren't big on cooking.
Maybe you know if the B250 and B400 have the same swingarm - if they are, then the gsxr400 swingarm should be an easy fit. Sounds like you are going to end up with an interesting hybrid. Take pics.

Is that a stock Gix4 s/a or the vaunted RGV deal?
Good luck Echo!
-
stock gixxer 400 swinger yes! what are you gonna do with the frame? Let me know first i might want it! Yes if that frame is like the 400 it will go right on! :beers: Dont forget about the frame
thanks

As long as the vultures are out, are the calipers and discs from GSXR front end in good shape? If so, any interest in selling them?

we're planning a front end swap aswell if the engine swap works out, however the disk carriers are wrecked so we'll have to buy new ones anyway.
On that note are the tubes the same diameter or will I have to swap yokes and everything? Its not really a big deal if i do, but the bandit has Bar risers on its top yoke and it'd save having to buy/fit risers
Jay, thats a stock swinger? the other gsxr400 has a different one, and this one has a rear shock with a remote reservoir, whereas the other one doesnt.
-
yes stock swinger 89 model , yes fork tubes go right in. (FRAME?)
-
(FRAME?)
Once theh whole thing is done you'll get first dibs on the frame :beers:
-
sweet, will have to see what shipping is gonna be versus UK cause i can get a few from there to! cheers
-
Should be similar, if you have the weight and dimensions handy i can find out.
-
That would be a nasty Kitchen Bike !!

Anyone know if there's any reason i cant put a set of carbs from a VVT bandit on a non vvt engine?
Need new carbs for the engine as one of the bowls is broken and the only ones on ebay at the moment are from a vvt bike

those are the carbs in question.

Well, we've made some progress, but its quite frustrating as there's no evidence of anyone having done this before.
First up
the b250 engine is an inch narrower than the 400, which neccessetated some shaving of the engine block and will require some welding on the frame.
I have 3 sets of carbs in various states, new emusion tubes for said carbs thanks to jay (and no thansk to usps), a spare cdi, a cdi that needs capacitors, a gsxr swingarm, a rf900 rear shock (thanks again jay), gsxr front forks.
I need to get a factorypro stage3 jetkit (for the needles, jets and pod filters) and some free time and i should be good to go.
here are some progress pics
