Title: Finally! Found a REAL rear rack for the Bandit 400!
Post by: GooseMan on July 18, 2007, 01:46:40 PM
YES! I've been searching and searching for a rear topcase rack thats actually made for the B4...finally found one! I've seen them on ebay in Germany, but with shipping and everything, they'd come out to be real $$$$. So I searched and searched for a manufacturer, and came across Hepco and Becker.

Apparently, they seem to have a top case rack AND racks for sidecases!

Part numbers:

Rear rack: 650358.0101
Side cases (not sure if it includes the rear rack too): 650358.0001

And heres a PDF with the instructions for the top-case rack....looks cool!

I've e-mailed their US distro, trying to get pricing. If anyones interested, maybe we can do a group buy.

Woohooo!

140 euros for the plain rack isnt a bad price and 245 euros for the rack with side mounts too isnt breaking the bank is it.

Interesting. Let us know what the US pricing is on the rack and the case. Although I doubt they're give us a break on a group order, I may spring for rear case and rack.

K...got a price for both

$169 for the top rack

$310 for the saddlebag mounts + top rack

not bad! If anyone wants to make an order, they have to order it from Germany, so it takes a while, so I recommend we do a little "group buy" and get them all at the same time. Maybe they can give us a bit of a discount.

So what would it cost for the top rack and top case? While we're at it, if you're gonna order the saddlebag mounts, what's the cost of the saddlebag mounts, top case AND saddlebags?

That's kinda weird pricing they gave you there...

Well, with the top rack, you can install any top case you wish.....same for the side rack/saddle bag mounts.

The prices are for the mounts only...no bags/cases included. There are so many different saddlebags and topcases out there, its up to you to decide which model you want.

The top rack is just this:

and the top rack plus side cases is that (above) plus these, so it would be all this in total:

EDIT:ooops...sorry, I see where I screwed up. on my previous post, I meant "$310 for saddlebag mounts and TOP CASE RACK (not a top case)...

Ah, OK, gotcha...

I wonder if the B4's frame can handle the loads.

I wonder about the stress on the frame too. I see just top racks on bandits a lot in Europe and asia so its probably not too bad if you don't over load the bike.  I'd want a rack for the security and conveniece for LAX; parking 2 wheels is free http://www.lawa.org/LAX/parkingrate.cfm
With bags I could take my laptop and carryon backpack safely over the freeway. When I park my bandit at LAX I could lock my jacket gloves and helmet safely too. I currently just lock my jacket and helmet to my bike with a chain. I've never had probelms with just the chain; sometimes I even lock my bakcpack under the jacket with the chain. People have tried to tug the jacket off a few times but its always there when I get back. I'm thinking the chain's probably good enough, but luggage would help me on LAX return rides home when I'm too jetlagged/tired to carry a heavy backpack 45 minutes on the freeway.
Half of me wants to buy it now in the states. The other half says just keep using the chain and wait till I go back to asia or germany again and buy direct or used.
