fitting new handlebars... couple of Q's
« on: March 26, 2006, 08:29:39 AM »
Hi all,

I've got my DAS in april, so i have started looking round for bikes...

the bandit 400 has really caught my eye... but i sat one the ohter day and was not to keen on the riding position, leaning to far forward...

I am very new to bikes, so am pretty clueless when it comes to tinkering with them...

i was wondering if anyone could tell me if i can add this stlye bars to them...

i have been looking mainly at the 1989. 90 & 93 models... but they don't seem to have the steering head to take these bars???

is it just a case of changing the head to one that does?

cheers'
ben... :banghead:

The B4 comes in a version with clip ons (usually has a twin disc brake front end) and a version with handlebars (usually with a single disc front end). You can swap the upper triple clamp of one to the other. If you're willing to deal with parts swapping across the pond, all the US versions of the B4 came with handle bars and you probably wouldn't have much trouble finding someone to trade with.

ah... thanks for clearing that up...   :thanks:  that's an idea... parts swapping... i will look into it when i purchase the bike...

i have another Q, how do i know if the bike is a grey import or an official import? (as i have heard it's harder to get parts for the grey imports) short of asking the person i am buying one off...

cheers'

Not being one who lives in the UK, it's purely speculation, but I wouldn't think parts for a gray import B4 would be any harder to come by than the official import. Not much difference in the two besides what's been mentioned - and perhaps a kph speedo instead of mph.

as uneductated a guess as i can make.....

i recon that asumin that the clamps are the right size then your onto a winner. best bet would be to get someone to measure the outside diamiter of the mounting points and then get the parts to match....

good luck
